Processing Time Confusion

Hey everyone, i'm new here, we filed my husband's AOS application with the EAD application included. On the fancy notice of action that we got it says "Received Date: March 20, 2008" then right below it "Notice Date: March 24, 2008" He had his biometrics taken in Philadelphia on April 15th. My question is this: on the USCIS processing times page it states that the times listed are the applications that are currently being *completed* and i'd just like for someone to explain to me whether or not that is the same thing as *approved*. This visajourney site says that based on member feedback, applications that were received March 20th for EAD are currently being processed, so does that mean that the processing times on the USCIS page represent people who have been approved, had their cards mailed out and received them? Thanks so much i've been really confused by this even though i'm sure its probably simple.

The USCIS published processing times are not worth the virtual paper they are on. Each date is basically the date of the oldest case they have in that category. Sometimes the dates can go backwards if they find an older case down the side of someone's desk etc. Don't rely on them for an accurate reflection of what cases USCIS is currently working on.

The timelines on this site are also just averages based on the information other people post about their case. As each case is different, and not everyone posts, this average is just a guesstimate at best.

Often the only reliable option you have of knowing when your case is being worked on is to check the status of your case using your receipt number. If it's in the system (not all cases get put in) and if it's being updated (not all cases that get put in are updated on the system) you can sometimes see the last date your case was touched by USCIS. This date doesn't mean someone was working on your case, it could be something as small as moved from one desk to another.

If push comes to shove, you'll know theres been a decision on your case when you receive a letter from USCIS saying they've made a decision on your case.

Thanks, I know the only possible answers right now from anyone are just guesses but i'm happy to know the the processing times on the USCIS page are the oldest ones which means they are processing much more recent ones. The average times that people have posted on here are keeping me excited because if they are any indication of whats going on now he should be approved pretty soon. They received the application March 20th so we are currently on our 62nd day. Thanks again!

If you can find other posters who are going through the same service center - then you can check their timelines and you can try to match it with your own.

This is the best I found over this process - the timelines are between 4 to 6 months for each part of the process (K1 - 4 to 6 months; AOS 4 to 6 months; Removal of conditions 4 to 6 months; and guessing ... citizenship is also 4 to 6 months). Do not get overly optimistic or overly pessimistic by any of these, your case may get through faster in one process or slower - you do need to worry if the time passed is more than 6 months without any notification. Good Luck
