paperwork/interview questions, Kyiv Ukraine

Hello All!

OK, we are excited! I received our NOA2 May 15th! We filed with VSC on March 18. We are preparing the documents for the interview and I will be going to visit my beautiful Alla Sunday in Donets'k and I hope to get all the remaining documents then. She will be ready when the visa arrives by slow boat to Kyiv.

But I have some questions and maybe someone here can help and I would very much appreciate it if you would.

1. I am completing the I-134. I have last years tax return showing greater than the required amount of income. Not by much, because I was self employed most of last year. BUT, it does exceed the required amount. I have a statement from my current employer showing I make well over the required amount and checks stubs showing I have already made over the required amount for 2008. The instructions say to "Attach 2 or more" of these items. I can also easliy get the bank information. Do I need to provide anything else? Or is this sufficient? This item has always concerned me because the I-134 asks for many things, investments, property, etc. Is it necessary? Or is what I have sufficient?

2. My fiancee has a son in college. Age 18, single. It is our plan for him to come to the USA next spring (within one year of her arrival) and file for change of status then, hopefully receive his change of status before he must return to school next fall. My questions regarding him are

a. Does he need a medical, police certificate and payment for the visa fee NOW, at this interview, or will he have a separate one before he comes?

3. How recent must the police certificates and medical exam be? My fiancee can receive her police certificate tomorrow if she wishes, or next week while I am there, but if we do not have the interview for 6 weeks, will it still be valid? Or must she obtain this just prior to the interview?

4. Same question regarding medical. She travels to Kyiv frequently, and can schedule the medical anytime, but how recent must it be? I ask this because it may be beneficial for her to have the medical in advance, particularly to schedule with her son's school activities, etc. and then go to the interview herself. (one son is 13 and does not need to go to the interview) But how recent must the medical exam be? And will the older son need to be at the interview, even though he is not traveling to the USA at the same time? We can arrange to do this as needed, but want to make sure we don't have a problem.

Best wishes to all of you! I hope all of you receive your visas without difficulty and as quickly as possible. I was pleasantly surprised that ours only took 61 days to NOA2 date!

Thanks to all

Gary

Gary,

1. I think if you had a sufficient income last year, that's fine! They ask info on the most recent year and, if you have more evidence from this year, it's great, it may be helpful but don't bother about reporting any other savings, investments, etc. In our I-134 my husband put his income (he's alwo self-employed) and we added some retirements savings he had, that's it! Get those paystubs and get your bank statements if you think it'll help, and you'll be all set.

2. Have nothing to say about your fiancee's son's situation because don't know how it really goes when children are involved, so I don't want to confuse you. I only know that 18-year old son will need to get his own police certificate and probably a medical exam as well if he goes with you for an interview. Call the call center, or email the Embassy if you have no answers before you fly to Ukraine.

3. Police certificates and the medical are valid for one year. If Alla travels to Kiev a lot, she may as well schedule the medical beforehand but it will take her literally the whole day - I arrived at 10am and left the building at 3:40pm. Even though that facililty is a specially chosen and, apparently, sponsored by the US Embassy, it's a real mess, in the best Ukrainian traditions:)!

Good luck :) !

Masha
