Finally.

After having hip replacement surgery on April 18, my Daddy is finally being discharged from the rehabilitation center today.

My sister is picking him up from the center at around 6pm. I'm on my way over to their house to help Mother bake him a carrot cake.

He's done great with his surgery and recovery. But he's still got about 3 more weeks on a walker and then several weeks on a cane before he's cut loose to use his legs normally.

Just thought those of you who knew about this situation would like to know. My sister and I are very relieved that he's coming home, but we will still have to be vigilant that he doesn't overdo it when it comes to taking care of our Mother, who has post polio syndrome.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I'm glad to hear that his surgery went well and that he has great kids he can depend on.

RJ, you seem to have a knack for keeping people in line, so I am confident you can make sure your father sticks to the program!!

Is there enough carrot cake for everyone? :P

What is it with carrot cake? I mean, I think it's sort of OK, but give me red velvet any day. :P

If you knew my family, you'd know where I get my 'frankness' from. And - um - I have little to no influence when it comes to the parental units. It takes constant persuasion, loads of prayer and some manipulation to get them to open their eyes and understand you can age gracefully, happily and healthily.

All joking aside, it's really a tough issue. I could go on about it for hours but you wouldn't believe about 80% of what I would post.

Still, you gotta love 'em. They've been in my corner all my life (sister's too) - any my son adores his Grandad.

Welcome home, Dad! :star: Hope that he continues to make good progress! My father's hip replacement was about 8 months ago and he's now able to crouch on his knees while doing yard work. If you can get him into a swimming pool, that would really help.

Good to hear. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
