I drove to Dubia and there are 100's of high rise buildings going up at the same time. They are very accepting of westerners and everyone speaks English. 75% of the population are foreign workers.

And sadly many are South Asians working under slave-like conditions, hired by misleading contractors. My ex almost went to work there - kinda wish he did since he lives in Govi's 'hood and I dont look forward to running into him again...

Yes for the common worker the pay is nothing compared to American wages. about 200 to 400 per month with room and board but if you are from a country that you can't make $5 amonth it is good income. For a business man you can make a fortune there but for the common worker you aren't going to get rich but you can feed your family where before you could not.

I've been to Dubai.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

What's the cost of living, exchange rate, hotel costs, plane tickets?

Depends where you live, $1=3.65 of theirs, hotels are expensive about 200 us, first class tickets about $14,000 US.

I lived there for 4 years. You can get plane tickets for much cheaper than 14,000 USD not first class of course. Emirates airlines has direct flights out of JFK to Dubai for around 1,000 USD, maybe a little more depending on when you purchase. Day to day expenses can be cheap but housing is not. Of course if you've got money to throw around they have plenty of places for you to spend it.
