I do believe my flight with aerlingus, I will be handing my K1 in at Dublin, instead of Chicago. I read somewhere its one of the last flights of the day that does use the US pre-clearance.

How does that work, when you get to Chicago? I'm looking at the Aerlingus flights to Chicago, from LHW via Dublin, and they're a good £200 cheaper than the likes of BA etc, although in fairness BA fly direct. I'd rather save the £200, though.

I've been through Chicago a few times, do they funnel you down a different exit if you clear all the immigration bumf in Dublin instead?

Yeah I've flown thro Dublin a few times. You still go the usual way down to the immigration hall, then they have people direct you thro a gate at the bottom end straight thro to the baggage bit.

Much nicer, epecially when you see a queue a mile long at immigration. Makes its a much more pleasant flight too I find.

Kris is looking to go through Chicago now as well since his visa still hasn't arrived and our flight options are dwindling for next week. Is it more of a pain through that POE?

Sorry to hear your visa has not arrived. I was told mine would take upto 5 days to process. Which was the case, my visa was sent out on the 6th working day.

I've had good & indifferent experiences going thro Chicago on VWP. I'm not sure you can really predict what any POE will be like, as of course it will depend on the IO you get.

Well I talked to the DOS yesterday and they said his visa had been stamped.. so it's been processed.. just not sure how long it will take from there.

sms had my visa two days, but I live up in Northumberland. The sms guy told me they only pick up visas from the embassy two days per week, they change which days often.

I might add that the IO's are Irish, and in my experience they tend to be a bit nicer than the ones you get upon arrival in the US...but like I said that is my experience. It's also nicer getting the passport stuff done before the flight than standing around forever after you get to the US POE.

And god forbid, if you somehow get denied entry into the US, it's better for that to happen in Dublin when you are closer to home than when you get to your US destination.

Well the DOS just gave me a headache.. what i was told yesterday was totally contridicted by a very rude lady today.. omg she was beyond rude.. <sigh> She said they would never say a visa has been stamped to someone.. and that it is showing pending.. whatever that means.. then she proceeded to tell me it can take weeks to get it and when i told her no up to 5days she nearly called me a liar.. #######? sorry annoyed atm.
