Some POE issue temp.work permits

I read in a post a while back that some POE can issue temp. work permits. Anyone know if Detroit can do this?

And if so does anything needed to be prepared in advance.

Would these be called temp. EAD's ?

I haven't heard Detroit issuing one. JFK does. You ask at the POE as far as i'm aware of.

It's called a temporary EAD, yes. From all the postings it seems JFK (NY) is the only POE that routinely issues this stamp (in your passport) - in most cases it was given automatically (without asking) and there is nothing to prepare. That said - it is valid for only 90 days and it is very debatable as to whether or not it is really of much use (mostly because many employers shy away from such a temporary situation).

Best advice - arrive, get your social security card, get married, file AOS/EAD and get situated in the 60-90 days (or so) it takes to get the EAD card.

I've said this over and over again but the myth that "only JFK" issues them persists. Contrary to popular opinion, this isn't the case.

Detroit DOES issue the temp EAD. In fact, I didn't even have to ask. They just did it. Good luck.

I presume you came to the USA via a land POE, so someone entering from the Phils via airplane may not be afforded the same service that you were.

It would be more helpful if you could tell us the specific POE through which you entered in Detroit as that state does have more than one.

Detroit is a city, which has two officious land POE's (bridge and tunnel); there are two other officious land POE's in MI (the state) outside of Detroit metropolitan area entirely--Port Huron and the Soo.

Hence my usage of the word.

I just wish that people wouldn't say its a myth about JFK without proving detailed specific information about what other POE's do issue the EAD. It doesn't really help.

So does this mean that someone with a K3 visa and a valid SS # can start working without the EAD card?

K-3 holders are not eligible for the 90 day EAD as this visa type IS NOT employment authorized incident to status (like a K-1 is) and requires an apprioved I-765 application before they can work.
