Hello all,

The exciting day is almost here. My fiance's interview is on May 30th! :) I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or could tell me about their interview experiences. What kinds of questions will they ask? How did you organize all of your paperwork? Should he wear a suit or would dress pants, a shirt and tie be ok? Any comments would be helpful.

Things to do to get ready for the interview.

1. Make sure all paperwork is organized.

2. Triple check all your paperwork to make sure there are no errors.

3. Be sure to be clean, clean cut, just as if you were going to an important job interview.

4. Wear a suit.

5. Go over interview questions given on this website.

6. Practice questions with each other.

7. Make sure you both have the same story

You do all these things, you should be good to go. Good luck! My interview date is a day before yours.

My fiance's interview in London was at the beginning of the month.. he said it's very simple just a lot of waiting. They asked him 4 questions.. "When did we start talking?" "what my interests are?" "When did we meet?" I forget the last one but really if your relationship is true you'll have no problems what so ever with the questions. I heard a popular question from London is "Why the US and not the UK?"

My Fiance bought a big envelope with dividers and just separated his paperwork into sections. He also has a copy of all the originals (birth certificate, Police certificate, passport...)

I don't think you have to dress up for the interview but my fiance did. He wore a suit.

also London seem to be more worried about sponsor evidence then relationship evidence but its good to have tons just in case.

and a note to add don't forget or lose the appointment letter it's the only way into the building.

Best of luck with the interview!!

Thank you everyone for the best wishes and advice.

I have a couple more questions that I feel kind of silly for even asking...

1. I filled out the I-134 and so did my step father because I was not certain that my income would suffice. When my fiance presents these documents should he say that I am the sponsor and my step father is the co-sponsor or just present my step father's I-134 and supporting documents (because he certainly earns enough money) then show mine if needed?

2. The I-134 was the right form to fill out wasn't it??? I have just looked on the US Embassy in London site and they say that my fiance needs to have "Evidence of Support - Any evidence which will show that you and members of your family who will accompany you are not likely to become public charges while in the United States. Note that the petitioner, in family based immigrant visa applications, and employment based immigrant visa applications where a family member has a significant ownership interest, is required to file a contractually binding Affidavit of Support, Form I-864. This requirement does not apply to fiancé(e), Kii or V visa applicants when applying for a fiancé(e), Kii or V visa. However, the petitioner will be required to file an I-864 when the fiancee, Kii, or V visa holder applies for an adjustment of status with the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the United States after the marriage ceremony has taken place. Further information for fiancé(e), Kii and V visa applicants. Note: For immigrant visa applicant whose case has been processed through the National Visa Center (NVC) the Affidavit of Support, Form I-864, will be sent to the Embassy by the NVC. You are not required to bring a copy of this documemt to the visa interview."

...That makes me think I filled out the wrong form, that I was supposed to fill out the I-864? Or is that a form I need to fill out for his adjustment of status once we're married?

3. Does my fiance need my passport or birth certificate? He has copies of both but from what I read on another post it sounded like he needs my actual birth certificate.

4. For proof of our relationship, should my fiance make photocopies of the letters I've sent him or just bring in the actual letters? He wouldn't want them to keep the letters I've sent him but he believes that they don't keep the proof of ongoing relationship so photocopies aren't necessary.

I'm just nervous about it because I can't be there to help him organize all of the paperwork and figure all of this stuff out. I've tried to help over the phone but I think I'm just confusing him. From what I've read the interview really isn't that long or intense as long as you're organized and have a truthful relationship, but it just means so much to me that we're able to be together so I want everything to go smoothly.

This is my experience but I am not from the UK :(

1. I am not sure about this one because I didn't have a co-sponsor. The CO spent more time looking at the I-134 than the evidence of our on-going relationship.

2. Yes, I-134 is the right form to fill out. I-864 is required for AOS.

3. My fiance ordered a copy of his birth cert from the county and I took it with me to the interview. It was not asked by the CO. But make sure your fiance has his original birth cert and also a copy!

4. The CO didn't even look at the evidence apart from two screen shots of my chat with my fiance, though the CO noticed I had a big folder of cards and letters and other evidences! She returned the screen shots to me after reading them for 2 seconds!

I hope that helps! Good luck on your fiance's interview! :star:

Hi there!

Had my interview at the US embassy YESTERDAY! I'm very glad to say that the visa was approved!

Here is what happened:

1. Interview at 9.30 am but arrived at the embassy at 7.30 am.

2. Stayed outside the embassy for ages whilst a 2-stage security check took place, a bit like the airport checks.

3.Allowed into the embassy after passing the security checks

4. Entered the lobby and given a number and told to sit in a waiting room heaving with other applicants

5. My number was called so rushed to the appropriate 'station' clerk, ie 'Number 71 go to station 8, please'

6. Clerk checks my documents: passport, birth certificate, 230, 156, 156k, support documents, police certificate.

7. Told to pay the interview fee at the cashier's station and return with the receipt

8. Gave the receipt to the clerk

7. Told to go back to the waiting room and await my number to be called again

8. Called after 30 minutes to see the consular officer

9. He asked me THREE questions  YEP! Only THREE questions: 'How did you meet?'...'When did you lmeet?'and question about my profession

10. Told me my passport was needed to stamp the visa in....It would be returned by courier in 4 days.

11. Paid fourteen pounds to the cashier

Hope this helps! But every interview is gonna be different in terms of the questions asked.

ps: Brought 3 FILES of evidence with me and didn't need them AT ALL!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! Don't worry! As long as you bring the papers they request and they are filled out correctly, everything will be fine.......RELAX and be yourself at the interview - the immigration person was very nice to me so I wasn't nervous at all :innocent:

FORGOT to say, I handed in my 2 pics and photocopies of original docs. Didn't go to a 'specialist photographer' ...just used a passport pic booth. Wouldn't suggest you do that tho. It's always good to follow the rules!
