Hello everybody! We are getting ready to file for AOS!

I have a question and I want to apologize in case of making a silly question but I just don't want to make any mistakes...

I already have a social security number that I got on 2004 when I did an internship through my college and below the number says VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION (It also has my first name and my last name before I was married obviously) question 9 on I-765 says Social Security Number, where I'm putting the number I have...but at the very beginning of the application says I'm applying for:

Permission to accept employment

Replacement (of lost EAD)

Renewal of my permission to accept employment (attach previous employment authorization document)

IS the employment authorization doc the SSC?? If it is, which of those three am I suppose to CHECK?

Also on question 1 am I suppose to write my married last name or my last name???

Sorry for taking some of your time...

Hope somebody can help me out!

I appreciate it! :)

One more question guys...on question 11

Have you ever before applied for employment authorization from USCIS?

If that means the Social Security Card....I only remember I went to the Social Security Office in Reno, NV.

After question 11 I need to complete Which USCIS office, Results (Granted or denied - attach docs.)

Maybe I'm confusing this two....

Your SSC is not your employment authorization. The remark on your SSC only means that if you get employed, additional to your SSN, you need a work permit=EAD.

You can put your SSN into the field where it is asking for the SSN and then check "Permission to accept employment"

The other two options are for people who either had an EAD before but lost it or need to renew an expiring EAD.

If your SSC is in your maiden name, I suggest you go to the SSA with your marriage certificate and passport and request a new one with your married name (if you file everything now in your married name).

Once you have your greencard, you need to go to SSA again to have that remark about the work authorisation removed. Your greencard entitels you to work, so you don't need a special work permit anymore.

I hope, this helps.

Thanks Nane!

Somebody adviced me to go to the Social security to so I went and couldn't change my last name with my marriage certificate because my I-94 was expired by 3 days. This was last monday. This person told me to call immigration and to get an extension on my I-94 but I now for a fact that none K1's are allowed to get an extention....now I don't know what to do....

Any advices please!!! :(

You waited too long. You now need to wait till you receive your EAD or Greencard before you can change your name on the SS card - but its not a big deal since you can't work without one of these anyway. Good Luck

Even though you cannot be issued an SSN card without proof of current work authorization, you may be able to have the name corrected on your SSN record.

RM 00203.510 D4 Correcting Numident Data When a Replacement Card Cannot Be Issued

If the alien does not provide evidence of work authorization or a valid nonwork reason, explain that no replacement card can be issued.

Although a replacement card cannot be issued, the Numident can be corrected if the alien has provided documentation supporting the change, e.g., a name change.

If the alien provides documentation supporting the change, process the SS-5 to update the Numident information but suppress the issuance of a card.

RM 00203.510 Alien without Work Authorization - Nonwork Need for an SSN:

http://policy.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203510#D4

Once your SSN record has been corrected, you can request an SSN Verification Printout, which will provide you with proof of your SSN and the name that currently appears on the record until you are eligible to be issued an SSN card.

DO NOT DO NOT let them take your SSN card until you can be issued another.
