Advice - Glasses paid March 14th, still not there

Hi guys,

Here's the deal: on March 14th my husband ordered sun glasses (prescription) at a local optometrist that works with our insurance VSP. We paid that day $200. He left for the Air Force, 3 months training, on March 19th. We were told to have them within 10 days.

At the end of March, the optometrist called me and informed me the lab had done something wrong with the lenses and said he would send them back. I agreed. for $200 they better be right. I then gave them also my mother in law's phone number as I would go to Germany for 4 weeks, to please keep her up to date.

They never called. Mid-April I called them from Europe, and was informed that the glasses are still in the lab.

Late April I called and a new guy was on the phone, not the girl - let's call her Jane - who I dealt with before. He said: oh the glasses came back, but the frame is broken. You know, I will send them to your DH anyway so he has something, meanwhile, we will order a new frame and have them redone. We will call you when done so.

When I came back to the US, May 9th, I called again about the status as my DH hadn't received a package. Jane again was on the phone and informed me the deformed glasses were never sent and just sat there. New frames were not ordered. She did so right away and promised a rush order.

She called me May 13th to tell me the frame was sent to the lab. My mother in law now started to follow up with them, she's an insurance agent and can handle requests for reimbursement. At this point, 8 weeks had passed since payment. She was promised a $100 rebate.

Today she called again wondering why the glasses aren't done yet - it has been 8 days since the "rush order". Jane informed her that the lab apparently lost the frames. And the optometrist doesn't know which frame DH ordered, Jane was out of the office yesterday, so they had to wait for her today to order new ones??? She said she will keep calling. She said the lab screwed it up and that I am supposed to go through my insurance for a complaint about the lab???

I don't think so - why should my insurance reimburse my co-pay? I am sure they don't have anything to do with that or am I wrong? Also, Jane did not ever follow up with the lab, for weeks, the order and then broken glasses just sat there.

Could anyone please give me advice what to do now - how can we get the glasses and our money back?

DH's OTS is nearly done and the whole purpose of having prescription sunglasses was that he could wear them outside in Alabama (Montgomery)... He will finish OTS on June 18th, and basically is done with all the graded measures. What a pain!

Tell your optometrist this is inexcusable and demand your money back - ultimately, it is the doctor who is responsible for choosing the lab. Ask the doctor to write out a prescription and have them made somewhere else - like Costco.
