Sorry, I'm guessing this has been asked many many times before, but I've looked through the guides and FAQ's and searched some of the other forums, even looked through the London Interview thread, and can't seem to find the information I need (or it's going right over my head, which is entirely possible since this whole process has made me a bit crazy/forgetful/unable to think straight) and I wanted to post this here in the UK forums, since it's kinda Embassy specific (I hope that's ok)

I'm getting ready to send Stu everything he'll need for packet 3, the interview, etc... and I can't seem to find a straight answer about the tax returns. On the London Embassy site it says that you only need the latest tax return and that it has to be notarized, but I see in some other places that you should have the last three years returns, even if you aren't self employed like it states on the I-134?

Also, if all I need is the latest tax return, where do I get it notarized on the 1040 and do I need to send the W2's as well?

Again, sorry if all this has been asked before. This whole thing is making me panic about what's needed and what's not (I worry too much)

Thank you for any help!

p.s. sorry for all the questions, but do I need to send them all my bank statements as well or just the letter from the bank?

One thing about I-134, the directions included with I-134 are very old, USCIS has no reason to update them since USCIS has no application for that form.

The consulates tend to treat the I-134 like a mini-I-864 as so prefer the same financial evidence as the I-864.

In our case this what the I-134 included.

  • I-134 signed and notarized.

  • SIMPLE Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html

  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years (Not necessary if you provide the transcripts)

  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.

  • Photo copies of past month or so of pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.
My income was well above the povertyline so I did not include any asset data (LIKE BANK STATEMENTS or property values).

If your income exceeds 125% or (100% for military) of the povertyline when counting yourself, prospective immigrant and any dependents, then don't bother with assets (401K, Bank balance, Stocks etc..), it is just extra un-needed data to provide, the consular officer is most concerned with INCOME.

The directions about having the actual return notarized is a bit old I did not and had no problems, and I have yet to read about someone needing then notarized, IRS transcripts substitute nicely for the returns.

Thanks for the info. :)

I posted this in the UK forums to get specific UK embassy answers, since I know each embassy/consulate seems to want something different. Just wanted to see what was really necessary in regards to the tax forms from people who have been through the London embassy.

When we did ours in 2006 we took three years tax returns. They asked 3 years of returns and took all of them from us.

My wife had been living in the UK for sometime by then and the tax forms we took were just normal photocopies of the tax returns she sent to the IRS.

I would follow the directions as they are now on the London Embassy web site, but if you have can easily provide 3 years of tax returns do so. Better he has them and not need them than to be asked for them and not be able to.

London seem pretty relaxed about how you provide the financial evidence as long as it is provided. So bank statements are ok although they don't seem to ask for anything more than is necessary to prove you meet the required income or assets.

When Kris went today. They didnt even ask for the tax returns. Took the I-134 and the letter from my employer. Nothing else. It may vary from person to person you see but that's what happened today.
