Wow, really? Our drive is like 9 hours and ours came to $725. :( Add gas and I figure we're looking at at least a grand.

ugh!

I don't have very much stuff so we can get away with the smallest vehicle available. I'm figuring with gas it's going to be closer to $700 though, probably will end up being more. What does it mean when km are including? It says that 834 or something km included. Its only like 720 to get down there.

They will calculate how many kms it will take to get to your destination and will usually add some extra kms in there for you so you don't go over. You also have to figure what the kms are from the uhaul place to your place and from your destination to the drop off place because that may add up to the extra kms.

Yes, if you go over the included kms they will start charging you a rate per km, in addition to the truck rental amount.

Just called Uhaul to confirm.

I booked it for July 18th. $707.00

She said we will probably have to fill it up twice. So yeah, it will probably be closer to $1000.00 which is still better than PODS ($2470.00) or UPACK ($1600) by far.

So it's booked...I wasn't going to reserve now, just get pricing but the woman said it's a busy time of year and sometimes people have called even 3 weeks in advance and there are no trucks available, can you imagine? That would have sucked.

I'm happy!!!

Has anyone looked in Penske? Do you they do 1 one-way across border? I know many people who have used them for cross country U.S. moving and the trucks are much nicer than U-Haul.

Are there any car rental places that do 1-way, I thought about maybe just renting an SUV, because I don't really have that much stuff and no furniture, and I feel like it is possible, but it may not be...

Hmmm...

I don't think they do one-way across the border...I remember researching this...let me consult my best friend...google...

No, they don't. They do one way within the U.S. but not from Canada to the U.S. :(

I asked the lady at Uhaul, they just got a whole new fleet of trucks and I'll be getting a new one.... I don't care what it looks like, as long as it's sturdy and can get all my stuff down there.

I didnt have too many options i called for a quote from one place they wanted 7500, the other place never called me back with a quote, and I didnt have 7500$ worth of stuff to move so there was no way i would pay that. As for pods they didnt have any in my area. We were just going to fill the truck and a trailer and leave behind stuff for later but i still had too much stuff ( well more like the kids). So at the last minute i called u-haul and asked for a quote on one of their trailers the 6x12 was perfect it was booked on Friday and we picked it up on the Monday. We crammed so much stuff in it plus the trunk of a car and the truck but we got it all down. The trailer after taxes and insurance was roughly 420, well worth it too.

Laura we went from Kitchener to Southern VA and only filled up 2 times before taking the truck back here so hopefully you shouldn't have to much of a cost with fuel.

And to those asking about Penske I did call them and they do not do one way across the border.

No one does besides Uhaul (if you are driving it yourself; there are moving companies who do this but they do cost more).

When calling Uhaul, ensure u check their online website, sometimes ya can get cheaper rates by doing that!!

I had more than enough miles to go from Greenwood NS to Arlington VA, if I had not made a detour to Middletown RI. I just over a bit, and the guy didnt charge me for all my excess miles. I drove that uhaul truck pretty hard, 80 mph was a common # ,lol and I got around 10 mpg, I'm sure I could have got a lot better if I drove in an econmical manner!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I loved that we did uhaul cuz it cost us about $500 for the whole thing..

we had just enough miles to make our 10 hour trip and it was really well handled... (which is not always the case)

you gotta keep on uhaul's @ss

oh, and remember when driving a uhaul truck across the border, DO NOT FOLLOW THE SIGNS FOR "TRUCKS"

THEY MEAN COMMERCIAL TRUCKS..

Your own vehicle insurance may cover it, it's worth checking in to, if not they normally have a very reasonable fee they will charge you to add the rental vehicle.
