I was just wondering, does it make a difference if you marry your SO in their home country in the K1 process, or is it better to wait until they come to the US. Seems to me, based off of all the uncertainty of when they would actually be approved and be issued a visa that it would be difficult to plan any sort of "wedding" within 90 days? maybe not? anyway can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore... and who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

I would say going the CR/1 route is very very stressful...i've waited 165 days for an approval from just USCIS alone and am currently waiting a case complete from NVC...others waited even longer...shrewdgal is passed 200 days and she is still waiting for an approval at USCIS...some people get lucky and get approved quick though as well...i think your best bet if you want your hubby up here asap is to do the k-1 and just do a civil ceremony in US and then once your hubby gets his GC go to JA and have like a renew of vows there....only my suggestion...

NVC Journey Total days: 75

04.09.2008: Case# assigned

05.12.2008: DS230 Entered into System

06.18.2008: Case Complete (So upset that it took this long 37days)

US Embassy:

10.29.2008: Interview Date Assigned

11.17.2008: Medical Appointment

12.03.2008: Interview Date (FINALLY!!!)**APPROVED**

12.08.2008: Visa Delivered

12.21.2008: POE JFK

That's what we're doing. A two min. $55 ceremony and a large wedding in Jamaica in 2 years. We both come from very large families.

Want to know how stressful, Honey? Ask Marlita and Shrewdgal. I don't think you are going to like their answers.

We did the K-1 route with the intention of renewing our vows in Jamaica around Christmas 2006. Still havent' made it back. Life has a way of taking control of everything. We'll be married 2 years next month, so the whole where we marry thing was of little consequence.

BTW.....if you marry in JA after filing the K-1, it is voided out and you have to start all over with the paperwork and the waiting for the CR-1. Think carefully before you do anything rash.

And, no....you can plan a wedding in the US in less then a week if need be. We did. Call a rent-a-preacher....call your friends and family.....buy some cake and champagne. You are good to go.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I hear you JG --

That's why we decided to stretch it out 2 years. My aunts have been dying to get me married, so they promised to take care of everything. We'll see. I'm sure they will. They did the same for several of my other cousins.

K-1 is for marriage in the USA ONLY. If you marry elsewhere, then you wont be a fiancee, and cannot use the FIANCEE K-1 visa to enter the USA.

If you marry elsewhere or marry before applying for a visa, then you will be filing I-130 for a spousal visa.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Honey...

plus if you will be married more than 2 years by the time u get the visa..then it doesn't make sense..just go ahead and do the fiancee visa..cause if married less than 2 yrs u still get conditional GC and u have to file to lift conditions. In my case by the time my hucband got his interview we had our 2nd anniversary and he got a 10 yr GC with a IR1 stamp. My process took about 9-10mths...and that's because i had no idea how long i should wait for an interview and just left it up to the embassy to get around to me...and plus aspe time between getting stuff back and forth to JA...

I got married in JA and did the K-3 Visa and filed for Adjustment of Status once here. Took about 4 months for K-3 Visa and 4 months for his Conditional GC. May be more steps but he got here quickly which was our whole goal! Sorry I don't have much info on the CR1's!

Good Luck!
