How do I apply for a Consular Registration of Birth Abroad for the baby? I need step by step procedures including application for her passport and SSN. What does it mean that the baby must be LEGITIMATED? How long does everything take?

I live in the Philippines. My fiance and I are going to apply for another K1 petition soon.

mami and dada's little baba...

My son was born in Germany in 1991 so he has this certificate. I'm sure the procedures have changed since then. Im fairly certain you will need proofs of birth and citizenship for both yourself and your fiancee.

Legitimation Method 2 - The person can be legitimated if:

the father (unless deceased) has agreed in writing to provide financial support

for the person until the person reaches the age of 18 years and,

while the person is under the age of 18 years -

the person is legitimated under the law of the person's residence or domicile,

the father acknowledges paternity of the person in writing under oath, or

the paternity of the person is established by adjudication of a competent court.

Thats from the Embassy section on Legitimated. It means that your fiance can submit a statement agreeing to provide financial support of the child and also do one under Oath acknowledging paternity.

Go to the USEM Manila website: That should give you a start on procedures.

Good luck

Confucius said, "Clever talk and a pretentious manner are seldom compatible with the benevolent."
