Just a quick question ... My wife just got a BRAND NEW passport made in India ... Now on the state.gov website it's not asking for both background checks -- Frankly it's not mentioning them at all ...

If I remember correctly, a passport older than 6 months means passport background check is also necessary ...

However, now with the wrinkle that she literally picked up her new passport TODAY, is there any need for the passport office background check?

Thanks as always - waiting to update you guys on more progress ... I sent my AOS packet last week and it was received on Friday but the automated system still just talks about the bill payment on 5/11 ... I'm having trouble getting a hold of a live operator.

5/24/10 : I-751 Packet sent to VSC

5/26/10 : Delivered to SAINT ALBANS VT 05479 @ 11:46am

5/27/10 : NOA1 Date (based on scanned check image)

5/28/10 : Funds withdrawn from bank account

6/04/10 : NOA1 (I-797) received, confirming above NOA1 receipt date.

7/31/10 : Biometrics letter received - Appointment date of 8/11/10!

8/11/10 : Biometrics done!

8/29/10 : GC received (sometime last week lol)! (WOW!)

Previous timeline of our Busy 2008!!

1/06 : Married my JAAN :)

1/15 : I-130 and I-129F sent to Chicago Lockbox

1/17 : Both petitions received @ Chicago

2/27 : Check cashed & I-130 petition visible on system.

2/29 : Received NOA1's! Notice Date - 2/22/08

5/01 : I-130 APPROVED!!! (But not my I-129F)

5/08 : Got Case # from NVC (received 5/7/08)

5/11 : PAID AOS Fee Online -- I-129F still pending; full speed ahead with I-130!

5/12 : Neetu emailed NVC re: DS-3032 (choice of agent)

5/13 : AOS Status now "PAID" -- AOS PRIORITY MAILED

5/16 : NVC received AOS

5/19 : DS-3032 email accepted & AOS entered in system

5/24 : IV Bill Invoiced and paid online

5/28 : IV Bill status = PAID -- DS-230 EXPRESS MAILED!

5/29 : NVC received DS-230 at 11:01 am

5/30 : DS-230 entered into system

6/03 : CASE COMPLETE - 26 DAYS AFTER NVC RECEIVED I-130

6/10 : Interview scheduled (for 7/9 originally)

6/14 : Interview letter (my copy) received.

6/16 & 6/21 : Medical

7/16 : Interview completed - APPROVED!

7/21 : Neetu picked up passport/brown packet from VFS

7/25 : POE AT EWR!!!

End of Sept: GC received!

rajee my husband got a new passport too for our i130 process.. anywyas he got it b/c he needed to get his name split. in india they go by last name first and first name last. so now his new passport has his first name on one line and last name on another line..which was required by chennai embassy

so he got a new PCC for the new passport... i dont know if this answers ur question but he did not need any type of check...

good luck!! i jus paid my 1v fee so jus waiting to send ds 230 as soon as the payment clears.. we r luky with the new online system our process is moving fast! :thumbs:

5-07-08- AOS FEE now says PAID online, can print cover sht.

5-07-08*cald NVC and msg says AOS $recvd

5-12-08-DS3032 EMAIL Accepted

5-13-08*cald NVC and msg now says DS3032 choice of agent has been received.

5-13-08-mailed AOS i864 packet w/printed cover sheet from online payment (certified mail- priority)

5-15-08-AOS packet received by NVC

5-18-08 iv FEE bill invoiced

5-18-08 iv fee $400 paid online

5-20-08-iv fee cleared, able to print covr shet online

5-21-08-mailed DS230 packet to NVC via priority mail

5-29-08 aos ACCEPTED

5-29-08- DS 230 entered in system

6-3-08-cse cmplte.

6-11-08 case left NVC to chennai via DHL

6-16-08 case reached chennai

7-2-08 appt letter received by beneficiary

7-4-08 medical done in chennai

7-28-08 interview- AP for 4-6 weeks (awaiting name chk clearance-told by chenai operator)

8-20-08 chennai forwarded file to DOS- according to inquiry from congressmans office

(also confirmed by DOS)

8-28-08 file reached DOS- told by operator

9-2-08- last update to case,told by DOS

12-12-08 emailed chennai embassy asking status of our case, and got email to send passport..

12-15-08 submitted passport to vfs

12-19-08 VISA ISSUED! in hand!

12-25-08 hubbys arrival! smooth POE!

1-16-09 green card arrives

1-27-09 SSN card in mail

So you didn't get both background checks??? (Local police station and Passport office check) ...

I think I'm confusing myself lol ... But I'll call NVC also to make sure ...

In case of new issuance of passport, you dont need PCC from local police that means you need PCC from passport office only.

In case of any correction(change of address,name change,adding spouse name) on passport, You need PCC from both authorities because Passport office doesnt change date of issuance on passport that means you passport is older than SIX months.

I just heard that from the NVC rep this morning and verified it online - in that case, it's GREAT news ... the PCC from the Passport Office takes just one day - whereas a local office can take a while!

I think the NVC knows that things can be bought in India pretty easily, so they're not trusting the police office lol ...

Here's the text I found on the reciprocity page which seems to apply to my wife as she picked up her NEW passport with her new last name (awesome!) on 5/19 ...

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.
