Good luck with getting that one granted.

Bit late now isn't it?

I don't know. Can he do this?

I doubt it, not unless evidence can be produced of coersion on the part of the prosecution to ensure a conviction. Simply lying about it won't get you off - he'd have to go through the appeal courts I suspect.

Surprise, surprise... I was extremely taken aback by his sudden confession a few weeks ago because it didn't make sense unless he wanted to become a martyr. Well, I guess now that he didn't achieve that thanks to the common sense of his jurors, he needs to recant in order to be able to appeal the verdict. Bizarre to say the least and probably not the last we've heard about this trial.

Permanent Green Card Holder since 2006, considering citizenship application in the future.

No indeed. But its safe to say whatever happens with the appeals process he's going to wait a long time in jail.

Charles Manson I think comes up for parole every now and again, and is routinely denied out of hand.

In federal court you cannot appeal your conviction if you plead guilty. Only appeal your sentence. If he can't get his guilty plea set aside he has nothing more he can do.
