I am sitting here watching round 2 of interviews for a person who will be an assistant to a Paralegal ("L" for short) in my office. L is a scattered, disorganized paralegal who has communication problems. Nice lady, but a drama queen who starts every staff meeting with, "well I am behind the 8 ball." When I found out they were going to hire her an assistant I was more than miffed. If only because I am doing low priorty work and constantly ask for work and the response is "sorry, I don't have anything to give you." I think L underestimates me greatly in my ability.

However, if L gets her assistant it means I don't have to give her department that much support and have less contact with her.

So I am confused if I should be relieved or peeved.

I think I am more relieved.

And when the time comes for me to quit, I will do it with joy because of the lack of recognition I've received.

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

This same ####### happened to me two years ago and I was super pissed. The person that got promoted was the daughter of the HR director who I was more qualified than. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise though because it motivated me to quit there and become a full time student and finish my degree already.

Thanks Olivia! I agree it has motivated me to start looking again. I am really only staying here until Abbas gets settled and finds work. Then when one of us is pulling in an income, I can look and quit without fear of financial poverty.

The last woman they fired from this place went onto to a great job working for the Oregon State Bar division for assisting minority students. Her starting wage as a temp was $20.00.

So I am well aware, one door closes another opens. I don't have a Bachelors Degree and I think that is the only reason I am being over-looked. HOWEVER, I am not an idiot and can interpret legal documents and understand the law. A previous paralegal I worked for in this firm had me doing much more work. She left to work for the Office of the US Trustee and said I should also consider working for the UST.

Those sound like good ideas. Change is scary and exciting. I wish you the best!
