Can someone translate - tagalog

I just found out someone online I play WoW with is actually in the Philippines. When he heard I was half filipino, he said "Kababayan" and when we said goodbye he said "Mabuhay Pinoy Astig" (sorry for spelling mistakes - going by memory)

I tried looking online on a tagalog/english dictionary and all I got for the first one was "townmate" and the second when I looked up the words seperately I got "long live" "filipino"? and "cool"

Anyone able to translate that better so it makes more sense? Direct translation always sounds so ackward. I'm so embarrassed not even knowing partial tagalog

"Kababayan" means "half-breed" in Tagalog - derogatory term for someone who's half-white

"Mabuhay Pinoy Astig" means "may you get hit by a garbage truck driven by a cool Filipino townmate and live long in painful agony"

Actually your research is right, but i just want to add up some information to you.

Kababayan comes from the root word " bayan" meaning town/municipality.Being kababayan in the Philippine context means belong to the same bayan, province, hence the english translation is townmate. When we go overseas however, it is used in a larger scale, instead of town, it now refers to the country. so when you say "mga kababayan" it means "fellow countrymen".

Mabuhay is an expression of jubilation, which literally means "Long Live" in English.But now, it is being used as "Welcome" for tourists coming in the Philippines. Astig means "cool". Pinoy is a slang word for Filipino. Mabuhay pinoy means "long live filipino".

I believe that "mabuhay pinoy" + the word "astig" doesn't make any sense lol. Maybe the person whom you talked to wants to say two things >> " long live filipinos" and "filipinos are cool". But let us hear more translations to other pinoys
