Societal acceptance? BS. It's legal rights they want.

They have the legal rights. As I said...the whole issue to homosexual marriage is the goal of societal and cultural acceptance that the state seal of approval of marriage conveys. While most Americans tolerate homosexuality, most do not embrace it or wish to legitimize it culturally by bestowing the state seal of approval of marriage. Homosexuality is not biologically correct and as such cannot be on equal terms with heterosexuality.

Those numbers have remained virtually unchanged since former Gov. Gray Davis signed legislation in 2003 giving registered domestic partners the same rights and benefits as married spouses and since same-sex marriage became legal in Massachusetts in 2004, according to Gossett.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Hey I get into it over evolution with the brother in law... a soon to be priest in the Saintly Society of St Pius X... as conservative within the Catholic Church as you can get. No worries though... he blessed our sinful marriage quite readily!!! :D

You're gay??

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Marriage is no longer looked at as a sacred matrimony, we are living in a society accepting of "the bachelor" "who want to marry a multi-millionaire, a bunch of gold digging woman trying to get a rich man, and no one has any problems with that.

But if two people genuinly love each other, and want to be as miserable as the rest of us, welcome! the "I am so depressed" meetings are every thursday, theres enough room for everybody" :P

J/K everyone, I am sure everyone here is as happy as can be

My only concerne is raising children, a girl I went to school with, grew up in a 2 mother home, and she said that it has caused her lots of confusion within her realationships. Although I do feel that it is better that she ended up being with 2 loving mothers instead of being handed around foster care!! So its alot to think about

There are a few options missing in that poll of yours. After all, I suspect that there are a fair number of usc and non-usc males and females who would support a homosexual couple's right to marry w/o ever having personally had any gay or lesbian encounter. That might sound very odd to some but this is where I suppose you'd find a good portion of the modern population.

no kidding :hehe: i made it with one of trolls previous polls in mind.

too bad if it makes them uncomfortable. homosexuals are people, just like heterosexuals are people. i am sure interracial marriage made and makes racists feel uncomfortable too. homophobia is not an excuse for anything. it is prejudice, hatred, and ignorance, plain and simple.

It's not BS. Having similar rights is not the same thing as having equal rights. Equal rights are constitutionally protected. I would actually have prefered to have something akin to a civil union with my partner. But we knew that we wanted to move to the US, and so we had a legal marriage ceremony.

Everyone on this forum was able to be united with their loved one, because of the legal recognition of their familial relationships. In the case of a spouse, the only way that the US federal government recognises your relationship is through your marriage cert. They couldn't give a fig if you married for all the wrong reasons. The point is you have the cert, and you can have your spouse come to the US (or remain in the US) on that basis. Gay couples cannot petition for their spouses. This is unfair and unequal treatment under the law. This should be rectified.

fear I'll never understand the "fervor" that this subject creates.

I mean... if gay marriage is legal I find it hard to see how it affects my quality of life or the quality of life of anyone else here.

What exactly is the objection to it...?

Homosexuality is as old as the hills and is established in our society. It isn't going to go away just because a few people don't like it.

Well stated! If you're that objected to it that you resort to name calling and hate I think it's more important to ask yourself why that is. At least that's what you're taught in psych. ;)

A child raised by homosexuals or a child raised around hate...what's more damanging really? ;) Society clearly answers that question.

Shakespeare was gay. When he toured England away from home, he write sonnets dedicated to his male buddies. If you read his 14 line sonnets, you'll see what I'm talking about. It gets very intimate. Sort of an indication that he's gay.
