So now mechanization is bad?? Are you kidding me?

You're getting tripped up on semantics. ;) He said, "farming as something to be done by more people on smaller farms with less mechanization and more care, producing less output of higher quality at less cost for greater profit."

Less output won't feed more people.

Currently, the U.S. overproduces. If farming is done more on a local scale and less exporting, then productivity only needs to support local populations.

How will that impact the consumers of our exports?

It's radical. It means local economies shifting towards agricultural self sufficiency. Some exporting and importing is of course necessary, but not on the scale that it currently is now.

Fine by me, but you do realize that even more people in ####### countries will die?

And we also can't sustain our present levels of overconsumption.

Perhaps. The imbalance will correct itself when billions of people in third world countries have died.

Perhaps. Or perhaps they'll decide to keep what they produce and then we'll have to reduce our overconsumption to less glutonous levels.

And we also can't sustain our present levels of overconsumption.

Concurrent to that, third world migration into more prosperous parts of the world will accelerate. No wall will keep them out.

Well you do have a couple of lunatics with machine guns that say they will.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Radical? No, it's crazy.

I wouldn't worry too much about oil. We have Canada which has more oil than the entire Middle East.

Less output won't feed more people.

I think it means less local output (keeping the product more local) versus lost output from operations that are too large to sustain a proportional geographical region.
