"Clinton Supporters Count Too" to actively work against Senator Obama in the fall

An Ohio-based group of Democratic Hillary Clinton supporters say they’ll work actively against Sen. Barack Obama if he becomes the nominee, arguing that Clinton has been the subject of “intense sexism” by party leaders and the media.

Led by Boomer-aged women, the group, Clinton Supporters Count Too, is holding a press conference in Columbus at noon to release this statement.

Organizers Cynthia Ruccia, 55, and Jamie Dixey, 57, both from the Columbus area, say they’re coordinating women, men, minorities, union members and others in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan – all important swing states next November – to impress upon Democratic party leaders what they think has been outright discrimination – and not of the racial kind.

“We have been vigilant against expressions of racism, and we are thrilled that the society has advanced that way” in accepting Obama as a serious candidate,” Ruccia said. “But it’s been open season on women, and we feel we need to stand up and make a statement about that, because it’s wrong.”

With growing calls for Clinton to leave the race, she said, women feel like “we’re being told to sit down, shut up, and get with the program.”

No, it's actually quite smart. Get a small number of pro-choice women to sit out the fall election and you swing the election to McCain. He's old and temperamental and will likely be a sh1tty President.

Come 2012, Hillary shows up with "I told ya so".

I agree! It's unfortunate because the democrats have this historic situation with this powerful women political figure and this up and coming black political figure, which has created this unspoken undercurrent of tension. If they want to work against their nominee and give the presidency to the republican, more power to them. The short term satisfaction of defending their political figure beyond party loyalty will not only hurt the democrats in this short rund but it will definately damage Sen. Clinton's career in the long run. To put it short and sweet as you did... That's stupid!

I guess I referred mostly to this part

"With growing calls for Clinton to leave the race, she said, women feel like “we’re being told to sit down, shut up, and get with the program.” "

I think that is extremely stupid thinking. To me it shows that there are still a lot of women out there who need another woman to stand up for them because they think they can't do it for themselves.

Why would you feel like you were told to "sit down and shut up" only because the female candidate didn't make it? That tells me they mainly supported her because she is a woman.

But yes, your theory why this is smart sounds plausible.

And this is one of the reasons why I say Hillary will not quit until the convention. If she can't win she does not want Obama to win.

But didn't she herself encourage her supporters to endorse Obama in case he will be the candidate for the GE?

I think I remember she said something like "Obama is still closer to her visions and opinions than McCain" something like that.

Yep. Something like that. And then there's this little detail:

SOUNDING LESS LIKE A CAMPAIGN?

From NBC's Ron Allen

Did we get off the bus at the wrong stop? Did something happen we didn't hear about as we flew a couple of hours from D.C. to South Dakota?

We're on the campaign trail with Sen. Clinton, but you really have to listen very closely here at the Jones family farm in Aberdeen to hear any hint she's fighting for the Democratic nomination.

Maybe we're getting a bit ahead of things, maybe its just the place and time, maybe its that we're all looking for clues about her intentions, but the vibe feels different.

Clinton began her remarks talking about how great it is that South Dakota is going to vote, and how important those votes will be. But what followed was a detailed talk about farming and rural issues, not why she's still in the race, nor much of her usual stump speech.

No mention of the delegate math, recent endorsements in the news, nor how much "we need a fighter" in the White House.

Clinton talked a lot about why she supports the Farm Bill that just passed the Congress and that President Bush has threatened to veto.

That's the "news" or theme for the day her press people highlighted. We've heard about the need to strengthen the safety net for small farmers, the need for disaster relief programs, mandatory country of origin labeling, and the "Farm to Fork" program Clinton started in New York. And by the way, there are 34,000 family farms in New York, just like some of the farms here, Clinton explained, anticipating that most people in rural communities think of skyscrapers in New York, not apple orchards and dairy pastures.

So far, just one mention of Barack Obama. It was the standard reminder that Clinton and Obama have "differences" over issues like health care, and whether everyone will have coverage.

Clinton also criticized John McCain and President Bush because of their opposition to the farm bill, the only mention of McCain other than something like the usual lines about how he's a friend, a good man, but with the wrong ideas.

Mostly, it's a beautiful sunny afternoon here on the farm, perfect day for a nice chat with some voters. There's a relatively small crowd of perhaps a couple hundred people. No one is waving "Hillary" signs and cheering Clinton on, but clearly they're here to support her. And based on the surroundings many in the crowd probably had to drive quite a ways to get here. The energy level is low -- comfortably so. And we sure have learned a bit about issues affecting farmers, rural communities and Clinton's very detailed plans to address those concerns.

Every campaign stop isn't a big rally. And as I said, we're all looking for hints that may, in fact, just turn into illusions. Yesterday, the campaign made it clear she will compete in all the remaining primaries, and fight to seat the delegations from Florida and Michigan -- and fight for the nomination.

A man in the crowd just asked Clinton a question, and offered to be her vice president. She asked for his resume. Everyone was quite amused. Not exactly the question many of us have for Clinton about the Democratic Party's VP slot, but that was perhaps one of the most "campaign-like" sounding moments we've heard on the trail so far in South Dakota.

That was just for show Dog. I am telling you, she will not drop out next month, she will not work for Obama and indeed she will do anything she can to see him lose. I know it's probably a long shot but I wouldn't put a 3rd party run past her either.

Obama will appease them by choosing a woman VP...but it won't be Hillary.

Quite possibly so. And Hillary will put her support in for Obama. It is extremely fallacious to think that she'd hold it in against someone that plays by the rules of the nomination process. She knows that everyone knows and anything short of that would be simply political suicide- which no politician ever tries to do willingly.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

No way would it be Hillary. She wants to be President TOO much for Obama to make her his VP.
