The pizza hut in Amman is to die for....beef pepporoni and sausage, MMMMMM i hate it that here my only option is ground beef......

 Pizza Hut in Amman does ROCK! :) I don't typically eat fast food home or overseas but when you can actually get an all beef "meat lovers" anything...that rocks!

Now as for Egypt! OMG, its insane the amount of fast food in Cairo...:) Hardess, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonalds, and many others...but I do hate that some people there do think the "hamburger" is our national food. That made me laugh and feel sad at the same time since I don't know the last time I cooked/ate a hamburger at home! LOL

Another funny: The fact that they "deliver" fast food to your home in Egypt (not just pizza)! WOOOT?? My fiance asked me, do they deliver Hardees or McDonalds there? Cute.

I've accosted family for eating American food while in Jordan. :)

See, a long time ago, in 1988 - I had this Hamburger in Amman. Erm ... "hamburger" I mean. I can remember it.

It was ... uh ... um ... memorable.

So, these days my position on food is - we live in the USA. We eat American food 365 days a year. You're in Jordan. Enjoy Jordanian food. Leave the American food to the Jordanians. If you've got a screaming kid who demands the McD's - grab a happy meal - then go get some real food.

When my friend in Amman asked if I wanted to go to McD's - I said - "No way! I can eat that stuff any day in the USA - I don't want it here."

:P

We went to a kebab place instead.

Heck - the meat's so fresh the lamb's still hanging over the grill.

And man, it was good. So good - that I demand that we find out where that place was ... ( QAIA <-> AMMAN Desert Highway. It's on the southbound side, maybe midway between Amman & QAIA. Damned if I could remember the name or anything - it was like 11:00pm, and we were on the way back from AQABA & PETRA [Wife and I *walked* to the monastery & 3/4 the way back. ... we gave out in the Siq - literally, I didn't think my legs would make it out - and got a cart the rest of the way. :) ]- needless to say, I was completely out of it. )

The moral of my story: Stick with someone who matches your own culture.

( This coming from an Arab who married an Arab from overseas... go figure. )

Jordan has a ton of fast food and western resturants....complete with take away cups.

Fast Food

Hardi's

McDonalds

Burger King

KFC

Starbucks

Pizza Hut

Subway

Other restaurants chains I saw were Applebee's & Benihana's.

They also have mexican, chinese, pancake houses, burger joints. etc.

Don't forget Popeye's in Irbed. I had never even heard of it until I saw one there, and now I have since seen them here.

I knew I forgot one!

I agree with you somewhat. Depending on how long the visit is, but if its a month or so...I will need something to eat besides what we get at home. Shawerma and kababs are great but I can't eat anything for one month straight!

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

I hit up Pizza Parma by the south gate of Yarmouk. That's the only American food I get while there and truthfully, I don't order pizza here-- i make it at home every once in a while. I just like their pizza, it's nothing to do with needing something from home. I also like variety at a certain point. What Ammar and I were talking about both craving at the moment is falafel-- really bad. I bought a mix but I think it was Egyptian and made from favas, because it tasted NOTHING like falafel I knew. You don't happen to have a recipe for shami-style falafel made from chick peas, do you?

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

Nope....we don't make falafel at home. I buy them by the dozen from a local falafel shop and freeze them. They have the best falafels in my area!

Ok so get this, in Bangladesh you got Pizza hut, 1 dominos, and some funny ones morphed into another:

"Chicken King" (instead of burger king)

"BFC" (Bangladesh Fried Chicken) <---I thought that one was hilariously clever and ate their with my husband almost every evening during our visit.

:( Sigh. Cravings suck.

yummmmm falafel......

I miss my favorite falafel place in Paris, they had a toppings bar and you could put whatever you wanted on your falafel pita... sigh

And in Spain they have a falafel fast food place called Pita Hut... I loved that!
