35 years..most sexally criminals get sewntenced to less than 5.........

this is an outrage and why there should be mandated sentencing laws in all states..

Oh but you don't mess with Texas. That's where mad cowboys can become presidenT.

You seem to have a real problem with Texas, don't you? Have you ever lived here or are you just repeating the same moronic drivel that trickles out of the misinformed to become myth and stereotype?

As someone who does live in Texas and may actually have some idea of what this state is like (imagine that -- actually having to live somewhere to get a feel for it!), I have never come across so-called "Texas justice." In fact, the majority of the police officers I've met have been extremely friendly and usually give warnings to people, instead of merely slapping them with tickets.

Now maybe that's just my experience and I happen to live in some sort of "alternate universe" version of Texas. I realize I couldn't possibly know more about this state -- having lived here my whole life -- than people who've never lived here. Who needs experience to be an expert on something, right? Surely a TV show, a movie or something your friend's cousin's next door neighbor might have said is good enough. After all, the many rumors and stereotypes fed to the public couldn't be wrong, now could it? No, of course not. Silly me.

To be honest I love Texas and the majority of its inhabitants. Having gone there and having family and friends, I think I can also agree that I've had plenty of positive experiences, and much more hospitality from public officials than, say, in Northern states. That said, there's an old moniker that some morons like to live up to in that state- as in "Everything in Texas is Big" or Ludicrously Excessive as is this particular case.

So how are them apples? Surely you're having a bad day given the amount of attempted sarcasm that doesn't usually characterize your posts.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I dunno about regionalisms but I do think some cops have a thing for their own power.

From what I've seen the NYPD is a tad more tolerant than the LAPD.

Not that all cops are good (they aren't by any means), but what we see in the media is there to make headlines. Which is catchier? "Police brutalize suspect" or "Police solve domestic dispute"? Remember, all media is a business and as such, they're out to sell as many newspapers as possible and take in as many viewers/listeners as they can too.

I'm not basing this on what I've seen in the news but on what I've seen firsthand.

In CA I saw:

One guy receive a $70 jaywalking ticket for crossing an empty street at 7am.

I saw another guy arrested for walking on a public street without a shirt.

When I worked (briefly) for my friend's land surveying business - we returned to the car to discover that we had been ticketed for parking a "dirty" car on a public street.

If that's not over the top policing I don't know what is...

Perhaps NYPD does things different - I don't know... I can say with some degree of assurance however that you won't be ticketed for jaywalking in NYC.

Of course... I mean its pretty gross to get spit on anyways :P

true. do you remember that dentist that transmitted it to some of his patients? while we can bicker back and forth about it can or can't be, my thoughts are the guy in the op got what he deserved. biting a cop has the same consequences. and the cop in the op has justifiable reason to worry, regardless of what some study may say. it's his life on the line, isn't it?

Medical Fact disagrees with the life on the line theory the sentence implies. Bickering aside, the sentence will most likely be appealed on obvious, logical lines.

as consolemaster pointed out, what if he has blood in his mouth? and as lisa pointed out, as i have been for several posts, medical science today does not know everything.

The 'recepient' of the blood also has to have an open wound.

HIV transmission isn't just fluids-to-fluids. Fluids have to enter the bloodstream.

It does seem a bit harsh...

I didn't think HIV was at all easily transmitted that way...

The officer would have to drink literally gallons of the infected persons saliva to get the disease.

This is absurd.

When my BIL (ex's brother) was dying from AIDS, he was at his parents home being cared for by their mother. He had a triple lumen catheter which my ex-MIL had to change and clean periodically.

One day she accidentally stuck herself with one of the needles that had been directly in his vein.

That was 16 years ago. She never contracted the disease and remains healthy to this day.

You can't get aids by being spit on. Even into your mouth.

Lock up that spitting idiot for life.

If there are any microscopic openings in the tissue of the mouth, HIV can enter those openings, make its way to the bloodstream, and eventually start reproducing, infecting the individual with HIV.

Fast-Food Workers Spit In Customer Drinks

Two fast-food workers at a Sonic eatery in Eunice spit into customers' drinks, a company representative said.

Several customers at the restaurant said their drinks were spiked with saliva.

"(My daughter) came up here and got a soda and come to find out some girls spit in the drink" father Joe Lawrence said.

A Sonic representative told KFLY-TV that the incident has been investigated and action has been taken.

20 years for each of them

Wait til' you hear what some kitchen staff at Chili's do to them Baby Back Ribs...

WHAT????

Oh I don't think you want to know... it may make you never order anything from a chain restaurant ever again...

THat doesn't only go for chain restaurants. My uncle was a waiter in a pretty nice restaurant and oh boy, he told us some stories....
