As far as the Arabic question, my husband speaks Arabic to our kids, and their babysitter is Moroccan and speaks only Arabic to them. You have to be consistent with it and they will learn, even if their friends are speaking English. Also my oldest goes to an Islamic School where they teach Arabic, so that definately helps. They can learn dual languages you just have to really work on it!

Hi amal! How's it going? I am trying to look busy to keep the boss away. OMG my daughter said she got her hair cut yesterday! She wanted to look more her age and get her 'high school' hair cut off. I can't wait to see it!

j

I am sure she looks great. I always dream of cutting off my hair and I know eventually I am going to be too old to walk around with this long hair but I love it and am dreading the day...

Bridget----my husband speaks Arabic to Malek a lot. He is currently watching him while I am at work and speaks nothing but Arabic to him when it is just the two of him and also comments to him and plays with him in Arabic. He also speaks English in the evening as well. Of course my Arabic is limited so I speak to him in English but will be attending Arabic lessons later this summer. The current plan is to send him to an Islamic school when he is old enough to attend and he will also get Arabic lessons there.

well theres tons of bilingual kida around here (spanish and english) in which spanish is the primary language of one or both of the parents and then they learn english at school. doesnt seem to be a problem.

I was reading on one of the baby sites recently that one of the main reasons why its easier for kids to learn languages as opposed to adults is the actually sounds in the language, for example, when it comes to arabic they have that KH sound which really we dont have an english equivalant. so a baby hearing only english will learn early to tune that sound out as unimportant, whereas a baby learning arabic will absorb it as part of the language pattern. (babies will just kinda 'keep' it as a vocal tool so they dont have to wait until they are in their 30s to try to force their mouth and throats to make those guttural sounds. much to the never ending amusement of their in-laws :) ) So I am always reminding my husband to speak arabic to the baby (and french too, for that matter) just so she can become familiar with the sounds and the rhythms of it. I think vocabulary is much easier to learn and expand once the syntax and stuff are familiar.

Just another day at work. I'm part of a training team for a new software implementation. So I get to be a teacher all this week and next week. It's supposed to be 100 today, thankfully I'm inside all day. Allergies are slowly fading, all that's left is this smoker-like cough. Not to pleasant when you're sitting in a training room and everyone keeps looking at me like I'm contagious.

Noura~Sending sticky vibes your way! Good Luck!

We are having a heatwave overhere this week. Its supposed to be over 100 degrees today! :crying: Its already so damn hot outside!

 That will melt the icing off yer donuts.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Sofyan also speaks only arabic to zaid, and i speak both to him....It is extremely importan that Zaid learns both very early, his cousins all spoke both to their kids, and by 2 years the kids were understanding arabic, but speaking english, and by 4-5 were speaking both, so Inshallah it works with us...

I would also like zaid to learn spanish at 5-6 if possible, by the time he is grown up, spanish will probably be required to get a decent job...

jac, yea i know its cold....i have my bro and sis in law here today with their 2 yr old, and were all cooped up in the house...

zaid has been sleeping in his crib for the first time today....He LOVES it!!!

Kel...were you serious about finding a new home for your puppy? Remember the man I work with that came over and petted him....well he had to put down his 2 min pin's this year due to old age and he is looking for a new canine friend. He is a certified designer and teaches at Columbia. He would provide a great loving home for your doggie.

Let me know and I will give you his number.
