In any case I believe you've said elsewhere that you recognise that the generally high standard of living we enjoy in the western world has come at the expense of people in other (poorer) parts of the world - and that there isn't sufficient resources for everyone to be sustainable if everyone is pursuing it.

The fact that we're significantly ahead - economically and technologically - and many African countries for instance aren't - isn't much of a mystery IMO. The "lead" we enjoy didn't happen by magic.

I think much of the wealth which allowed Britain and America, in particular, to get the edge they maintained as super-wealthy societies during the last 200 years of economic growth, was based on slavery and, of course, colonialism.

See, I don't believe that. Germany didn't have any colonies, wasn't built on the backs

of slaves, was completely in ruins after WWII, yet somehow they are the largest and

best-performing economy in Europe today and a world leader in science and engineering.

African countries were backwards even before we invaded them. If Africans

had superior weapons and technology, we wouldn't have been able to colonise

them that easily, don't you think?
