I checked out his blublu.org link. They look like a real artist to me. That's amazing what they did with that wall animation. I am so envious!

art, no doubt about it

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Simple rule: If you own the surface you paint on, or are authorized by the owner to paint on it, it is art. If not, no matter how artistic your work may be, it is vandalism.

True from the legal standpoint.

True from the legal standpoint.

And the moral standpoint. Marking others' property w/o permission is a form of theft.

But the paintwork in itself is art IMO.

I mean, if someone would put an awsome graffitti on my housewall or so, I would be superpissed, but I would probably still see the artistic aspect of it.

I say it's art but they probably put it in the wrong spot.

To try to stop graffiti along the Metro line in Newcastle they made spaces at each stop for graffiti artists to make their own murals and display them for a few months and then they wipe it clean and put up a new one. Not sure how well it worked but a lot of the stuff is really good.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

The original question was whether this was art or vandalism. If it was vandalism (i.e., the painter had no permission to do it), then whatever artistic value it may have does not make it any less wrong. Calling vandal painters "grafitti artists" as is often done is putting lipstick on the pig.

I say it's art but they probably put it in the wrong spot.

And that is precisely the answer. Get permission and it is perfectly acceptable. Similar things are done in L.A. where there are huge murals on the walls of freeway underpasses.
