A WORD OF CAUTION:

Make sure your doctor doesn't do anything bad while you're asleep! Like the dentist in London who urinated into the sink near the patient! :D

You'll be fine.

I don't think she will be asleep....but that story sounds nasty....

Thanks Jomo, nane, and everyone - I feel much better now...

My hubby went to the dentist for the first time when he had a toothache last summer - I was there with him when the tooth was pulled - the whole procedure from novocaine to pulling took maybe 10 minutes - Govi didn't make a sound. You would think the dental care is horrible in Nepal but I was impressed with this dentist, the office was very professional, although yes they do not do much if any restorative work like root canals, they tend to just pull teeth - I guess they do it so often they are good at it.

Did they use the "string and door" tooth-pulling method?

(Open the door, tie one end of the string to the tooth, the other end to the door knob, then slam the door shut.)

:o:lol: No - I seem to recall reading about this in a book though - ouch!!!

Yes, I don't want him to knock me out, just getting local anesthetic - that is horrible!!!

Reminds me of an infamous, long-running thread on the IndiaMike message board where people are discussing if it is OK to pee in hotel sinks or not...

I have an appointment with an oral surgeon at 1:00 to remove a tooth(molar) which was previously treated with root canal 12 years ago - it decayed under the crown so badly that there is really no tooth left above the gum save for a tiny bit which I can feel with my tongue. I have no idea what to expect - I have never even had any extractions or major dental work save for that one root canal... I am opting for local anesthetic because my insurance does not cover IV sedation...

Has anyone else had this kind of procedure? Please tell me what to expect - I imagine he will have to cut into my gum and that it will hurt for a while... :crying: I just wanted to get it done now so I wont worry about it while I am with hubster...

I have had teeth drilled into, pulled, drilled down and veneers put on, root canals on lots of teeth. every single one of my teeth has had work. you will be fine, the local anesthetic is fine it is not bad at all.

Just make sure he doesn't pee in the sink.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Hope it goes well Pattu... (F)

Yeah - hope you don't have to go to the dentist ever again, 'cos ya know,

in Nepal they can only offer you this:

I had my one wisdom tooth taken out when I was 18. They used sodium pentothol to put me out. I was ready to start counting backwards, but the anaesthesiologist just laughed. Then he said "OK, you should start feeling it", and someone grabbed the room and spun it. I tried to fight it but there was no way. I felt fingers in my mouth, a quick sharp pain, more fingers, then they said "OK you're done". 30 minutes had passed in like three seconds. I sat there for a bit, then I tried to sit up, couldn't, and said "####!". Everyone laughed; I was embarrassed. :)

Then they took me to a "recovery room", this little cubbyhole with trippy wallpaper. They gave me a sickness bag in case I lost it, and for ten minutes I stared at the wallpaper while holding back the nausea. Then my mom drove me back home and filled my prescription of darvocets, fun little pain pills that go well with one (1) beer.

Too bad you're not going under, it can be fun!

True. I had to be sedated for my wisdom tooth removal. That was the only part that was fun, unfortunately. The pain afterwards was easily on par with labor except for it lasted for 3 days, not 2 hours. But this isn't a thread about horrible dental experiences.

I would say 90% of all the dental work I have had done, I have had no problem with. Only problem with local was once when it wore off while they were using an electric knife. It didn't hurt per se, but it did feel...COLD. The dentist totally freaked out and stopped immediately when I said that and injected some more. LOL, maybe she read somewhere Americans like to sue.

I was also put under for my last two wisdom teeth and it was the easiest thing ever. They had me counting backwards and I think I got to three before I passed out. Next thing I saw was my boyfriend at the time helping me get out of the chair, but it felt like I had just closed my eyes. Then they gave some vicodin and it was awesome. ^_^
