As to the point, it's still my opinion I don't like guns and think some changes need to be made regarding ownership of them.

BUT I was clearly incorrect in a lot of my assumptions regarding guns, and I learned a lot about them in that 'famous' thread.

It's always good to learn - even if you don't agree.

And again, the whole point is that not everyone is meant to carry a gun. If you just don't like the idea of them, that should be that. I find it totally uneccessary when people who DO have guns like to belittle those of us who aren't comfortable with them saying we'll be the stupid/sorry ones when we get attacked in our homes. As if it's a foregone conclusion.

Regarding guns - it should also be pointed out that while the ownership of firearms (presumably) makes a person competent/expert in their operation and maintenance (as well as the local laws surrounding carrying them and acquiring them) I'd argue it doesn't make them any more expert than anyone else on the broader social aspects of gun crime.

A gun owner probably doesn't have much more of an answer on the likes of Columbine or Virginia Tech than anyone else does - IMHO.
