Hi all, I'm just wondering if there's any things that you sold off, or threw out that in hindsight, would have been worth having with you.

Currently trying to narrow down what I want to bring, and what will be easily replaceable, but there are a few items I just don't know about. For example my little collection of kitchen things I've built up over the years. It can sometimes be very hard to find a peeler you really like. Or my lasagne dish that I like, but is quite heavy etc. Another example is a blanket I brought with me from Ireland to the UK. I could just send it back home again, or bring it with me.

Sometimes somethings seems so normal and commonplace that you think they'll be easy to replace - but in America maybe are specialist items. Anyway, I was just hoping to hear from you guys. Wether you're grateful for all you brought with you, or in hindsight, you could have done with much less.

Poiteen, you're not going to be surprised when I say this, but I regret leaving my duvet. It was just about perfect, and I just can't find one in America that seems right. (Hence my trip to John Lewis last month.) I also regret leaving my Yorkshire pudding tin for making small puds. I've tried using muffin tins but, hmmm, not really successfully.

I'm not at this stage yet but I'm finding these responses very useful, too. Great idea for a thread! I've been wondering whether or not I should buy a light duvet, and I'm going to compile a list of small kitchen gadgets.

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

I whittled down my stuff to two rubbermaid totes.. besides my clothes of course.... I left them behind and my mom said she would ship the stuff out to me when she could....

So she shipped it out to me bit by bit.... and the last time we drove down there I took the rest... somehow though I think my mom "misplaced" a few things... there are a few things I can't seem to find.. nothing major but still....

I know im gonna miss salad cream,

I've seen it in World Market.

If you're a cook you're going to miss any favourite kitchen tool or pot or dish, etc. Ditto for foods and drinks and spices. You might want to take up sewing because they have a terrible selection of duvet covers here, but I've found some good duvets in Macy's. (Buy them on sale then use your 11% foreigner discount on top of that.) Ikea and Linens and Things have some pretty good lesser-quality ones, though.

I found that no matter what it is, and how much I didn't think I needed it at the time I got rid of it, at some point I will stop and say "Gawd, I wish I had brought that with me." :crying: You can't win. Don't beat yourself up about it. Bring as much as you reasonably can. The rest can eventually be replaced. The sentimental items can't, so make sure you bring those. You will miss them. It's a struggle. ((((BIG HUGS))))
