wmhurd,

Depends which consulate you're dealing with. Some consulates put all of the visa application materials in Packet 3 and only the interview notice in Packet 4. Others put only some instructions, DS-230-I, and the checklist in Packet 3, and all of the other forms in Packet 4 along with the interview notice.

Don't know how the UK does it.

Yodrak

Hello All

Is there anyone out there that can tell me what does Packet 4 consists of? Also how long after sending in Packet 3 do you receive Packet 4?

Wayne or Yodrak, how did you know when your package arrives at the consulate? I was told ours was mailed from NVC on 1 May but when I did a search on DHL today I only found packages mailed to Bangkok on 27 Apr., 28 Apr and another today. I am hoping ours was one of the earlier ones but we still have not received packet 3. We have finished the medical and police report and have everything ready to mail to the consulate in order to get our interview appointment but am afraid to mail just yet as they will throw this away if they have not received our package from NVC. Any advice?

Jim

My wife called the embassy and they told her. But you can email her and ask if she had done anything else to get the date. Her username is RMHurd Good Luck...........Wayne

Jim-n-Bennie

Good question. I'm tempted to answer, 'when you receive the visa application packet' but my wife never did receive hers. Up until recently one could just go to the consulate in Bangkok and pick up a K-visa application packet and drop off the initial forms in person, but no more.

I suspect that you've got a few weeks to wait before your fiancee can expect to receive her application packet or can safely send in her application. It took 3-4 weeks for my approved petition to get from the NVC to the IV unit at the consulate in Bangkok. Remember, DHL may be able to get the petitions to Thailand in 2 or 3 days, but then they may have to get through the Thai Customs House and they have to get through the embassy's internal mail system to the IV unit and be opened and file created before it's recognized that the petitions have arrived.

Regarding finding out when your petition reaches the Consulate:

We did not go through Thailand, but I followed our paperwork by calling the State Dept Info line. And I'm glad I did, because I found out that they tried to mail my then fiance's packet 3 to him at a street address rather than the PO Box I had plastered all over our petition package. He found out later that his mailed packet 3 had wandered around his neighborhood (to the school, to the Village District Committee offices, etc....) and ultimately got sent back to the Consulate (we think). Anyhow, the result of following by phoning the State Dept was that we were able to save time by him going to the Consulate to pick up another packet 3. The State Dept's computers seem to have certain critical dates, addresses, etc, relating to a package's progress.

Here is the info number:

Contacting Visa Services - Information is available to the public by telephone at the Visa Services, Public Inquiries Division at telephone (202) 663-1225 or by FAX at 202 663-3899.

Good luck J&B!

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

Thank you Maya, Wayne and Yodrak for your good advice. I will try to call both the embassy in Thailand (not too confident on this one) and the State Dept. number that Maya has provided. I am also thinking about just mailing in the Packet three anyway. The worst they can do is throw it away if they have not logged our info into the computer yet. If they do throw it away it is easy enough to reproduce the information and resend a week later. Hope I don't p*$$ them off this way. :D

London (UK) put everything else in the packet three and only the interview notice and fee slip (plus medical questionaire if you have not already had one) in packet 4
