Invisible Police Certificate?

Boy am I furious...

I called the AVR system today in the hopes of hearing "case complete"... but instead... RFE!

So I got in line to talk to a rep and she said that they are requesting 2 police certificates. Great Britain and Austria. What, is the UK police certificate invisible that they can't see it? Or do they not know that UK > GB? And as for Austria, my wife lived there til age 16 and a half. Meaning, she did not live there for a 12 month period while being 16 years or older. So it should not be required, am i right?

So I described the situation to the rep. (Actually, I wasn't prepared for such a situation, so I didn't have the document requirements PDF in front of me, and I thought the age limit was 18, so I told her the second certificate should not be required because she was under 18 when living there.) She said she would forward the information to the "officer" or whatever, and that should take 10 to 15 business days to process, so I should call back in 2 weeks.

After hanging up I brought up the document requirements PDF and saw the actual rule. I still believed my wife did not need to submit a police certificate for Austria, but since I had cited the wrong explanation to the rep, I decided to call back. I got a different rep and I explained the situation to her, but she said I had to wait for the RFE letter and snail mail them my response explaining why I believed I didn't need to send anything in. I asked if I could email it in, she said no. So then how come the first rep I talked to said she would forward the information to the "officer"?

Anyone ever been in a similar situation? (With my luck, no :P) Any advice? Am thinking of calling back at night and trying my luck with another rep... Whats worse is I'm leaving for Bangladesh in 2 weeks, to stay 2 months, and was hoping everything would be wrapped up with the NVC by then...

Filed: Lift. Cond. (pnd) Country: Peru
Timeline

I received an RFE for a military police certificate that was in my package. It was not misplaced, it was not lost, it was there. The reps told me 3 different things the same day. After 2 days I called again and talked to a supervisor who, by the way, called me back the same night. He verified all was there. He would make sure things got rolling again. Finally after more than a week after the "error," my case was completed.

It may not hurt to call again and you may be able to speak to a supervisor. Explain what you sent, what the directions say, and be polite. I hope you get this straightened out very soon.

Good Luck!

Update: I just called and talked to one of those fabled more sympathetic night shift operators. I explained my reasoning as clearly as I could. She could tell from the system that I had already called once today. What I understood is that a note was made for our papers to be re-checked by someone, but there is no way for me to convey my reasoning to the person who will be doing that check. So I just have to sit back and hope that that person will be more perceptive than the first person who checked our papers and will realize that all the necessary stuff is there.

About the UK certificate, looking at the photocopy I kept, it's hard to tell from what country it is. The bold text at the top just says "POLICE CERTIFICATE For Immigration Purposes". And then it lists my wife's address in Bangladesh, so they may have thought this certificate was from Bangladesh too. You have to look carefuly to see that the seal/logo on top says "England Wales & N Ireland ACPO" and at the very bottom the email address of the office ends in .police.uk . I did send a cover letter listing in order the documents that I included in the packet, so if someone made an effort, they could put two and two together...

Anyone else with a UK police certificate have such problems?

Oh I should have asked for the supervisor! You were 10 minutes too late :P Now I'm afraid to call a 4th time the same day and annoy them... I'll give it til friday. I'm guessing its their policy to say 10 business days but it shouldn't take longer than it takes for a "good" application to be accepted. But I wonder if their system will show anything if they still think I need to submit stuff after reviewing...

Thanks for the info :)
