Bolivia Embassy Status

I wanted to comment on status and interesting Bolivia experience.

My attorney wanted my wife to pick up packet 3 at the consulate, in order to speed things along. This troubled me, since it is difficult for her to make these long trips.

I called and confirmed with the US Embassy in Bolivia, that they have received our file. I was able to obtain a phone number and reach actual people. They told me to “Not have my wife pick up the packet 3”. They said they could now email it to her since regular mail was not always dependable. So I provided the necessary information and we are now waiting on that.

We have three(3) police reports and the consulate told us we did not have to have these translated, since they were in the native language. What a relief and saves my wife extra translating/certifying work. It could be a different requirement in other consulates.

I’m not sure if this would be helpful for all countries, but getting the correct phone number to an Embassy/Consulate, seems to make a big difference. I have had a lot of trouble getting through on the regular published phone line and trouble getting them to respond to email.

Anyway, they were very helpful and friendly. A world of difference from the USCIS. I hope the rest of our journey and interview goes so well.
