Or you could be transferred to CSC, they could lose your file for 6+ months and it could be sent back to your local office after all, like me!

It's really unpredictable. Your best bet to speed things along is to make sure all of your documents are in order, don't check your status online every day (because it will drive you nuts) and keep your fingers crossed. If you get outside normal processing times, go in for an Infopass appointment and see what's going on.

nane1104 I will apply for AP if I don't have AOS by end of August. Just hoping I don't have to.

Since AP does not have any additional fee attached anymore (other than passport photos, postage and copying costs) why wait?

Exactly. Well, you can wait a little bit if you don't have any travel plans very soon, so you can have more use out of the one year AP if you file later, but I wouldn't wait too long to avoid any stress when you really need it.

Well I don't need it right now, but would like to have it by Christmas. Since I haven't worked in so long working is my priority then holidays at Christmas. Someone I know is printing me off all the job listings at the local schools which would be great since it is an 11 month position which means I would be able to finally get home to Canada to visit and not have to worry about taking holidays lol.

From what I have been reading on VJ, if you have an interview an all your documents are in order and complete, they will approve you right there and you will have your greencard in the mail soon after that. That's if you have cleared your FBI namecheck by the time you have your interview. My case was approved without an interview, all my papers were just fine, no RFE's whatsoever and it still took forever to get approved at CSC.

I don't think there really is a rule to anything when it comes to USCIS, some get approved really fast after their case got transfered, others wait forever.

Same with people who have an interview. Sometimes it only takes a couple of months to have an interview, others wait more than a year.

This is what I'm hoping for - we should have no "red flags" and in addition have just bought a house togeher, have joint bank accounts, joint insurance and utility bills plus wedding photos etc etc etc - fingers crossed this will be quicker than going the CSC route :) Still, with USCIS - who knows?

  • 1 month later...

A quick update - we had our AOS interview last week and were approved on the spot!!!

Only took 2.5 months from receipt notice of AOS application. So, a lot quicker than CSC but of course every case is different and maybe we just got lucky!!!

Here's a link to our interview experience if anyone wants to read about it:
