The mangoes are in Iselin!! And mad expensive.

If I wasn't going to be up to my ears in Nepali mangoes in 12 days  I would come out there - I hear that 'hood is the Jackson Heights of Jersey.

Yeah. I'm in the general area. Traffic is a nightmare but the shopping and eating is good.

Although, I think the comparison with JH is overdone. JH has a much more urban feel.

Hubster and I were walking around our Little India over the weekend and saw these little yellow mangoes, not like the larger ones I'm accustomed to. Is this what you are talking about? They were about half the size of a regular mango.

India has many strains of mangos. I don't know which one you saw, but my favorite Indian mango is the dusseheri. It's very small and very sweet. India also has larger mangoes but they suck IMO.

Those sound like the Nepali ones - small but sweet - I love them with beaten rice and dahi for breakfast...

The Hawaiian ones which I grew up on (I think Hayden) are OK but have a slight undertaste which some people compare to turpentine - they are also stringier than the Indian/Nepali ones I have eaten, which are smooth like buttah...

We've gotta stop talking about food LOL

I always end up hanging around JH when I come back from Nepal - the sights, sounds and smells make re-entry into the US easier. I love how everyone hangs out there on the corners - yes, very urban.

In terms of mass-marketization, you know what i miss?

the Mom & Pop Pharmacy... where you call and talk directly to the pharmacist, and he/she knows your voice on the phone. so few of them left... :(

ah well... c'est la vie, i guess.

On the other hand, I have a CVS Pharmacy next door that works 24/7. Show me a Mom & Pop

pharmacy that's open 24/7.

Exactly. CVS, Walgreen's, I know of three different 24/7 pharmacies within a 5 minute drive of me. The big chains do bring significant value, which is precisely why they drove the rest out of business.

The new landscape of housing prices and high fuel costs has important implications for public policy. Cities that offer attractive urban living opportunities in close-in neighborhoods, enabling people to drive shorter distances and make convenient use of alternatives to car travel, are likely to be more affordable and economically successful than places that continue to follow sprawling development patterns. Working to promote land use patterns that enable mixed-use development and provide more bikeable, walkable neighborhoods served by transit will provide multiple benefits, including cutting gas bills, reducing the trade deficit and reducing global warming.

I hope it will be the end of urban sprawl.

There's one on Rt 18 in one of the Brunswicks but that's about 15 mins from me.
