Hi all,

I'm getting fet up with my fiance's court case where he's trying to get his birthdate corrected on his official doc's - 10th certificate and passport before we file for a K-1 visa.

I'm exploring my other options. What if we decide to get married in India? What do you need to bring with you to get a marriage license in Chandigarh? I think I'm covered as I have my Driver's license, brith certificate and divorce decree but what about Sam? What does he need to bring with him? As long as he doesn't have to bring his 10th certificate or passport I think we are good. His birth certificate is the only correct document we have at this point.

K-1 Visa

9-22-2008 - mailed I-129F

9-29-2008 - Received NOA1 in mail

1-09-2009 - Received NOA2 e-mail notification

2-09-2009 - Packet 3 Received

2-28-2009 - Packet 4 Received

3-02-2009 - Medical

3-23-2009 - Interview, 221g

3-31-2009 - Returned 221g additional evidence request

4-08-2009 - Received visa!!!

4-19-2009 - POE

5-09-2009 - Wedding

12-03-2009 - GC approval email

12-10-2009 - GC rcvd in mail!

I've researched a little about marrying in India. My understanding is that you just need to prove you are able to marry legally. You have proof you are able to marry - the divorce decree. If either one of you are not Hindu, you'll have to follow the special marriage act which I think means registering at the FRRO office 30 days ahead of your intended marriage date.

As for Sam - you can try the birth certificate. Is it from his municipality or a hospital based certificate?

I'm sure someone with better info will be along shortly - but I did want to warn you about the potential 30 day wait!

The wait isn't a problem for me. If I went this route I'd want to move to India for a few years. =D
