First time poster but long time reader!

Just got back from my fiancee's interview in Taipei, Taiwan. My fiancee is Filipina but lives and works in Taiwan so we filed at the AIT ("Embassy" in Taiwan) instead of Manila.

The interview was on Friday, May 9 and we were asked a lot of questions about the relationship (how long we have known each other? How many times we have met? etc). We were more than prepared for those questions but then we had a sort of wrinkle that almost upset the apple cart.

My fiancee's company prior to the interview was very reluctant to give her back her passport due to internal HR regulations on foreign workers. We did manage to get it in time but only after me writing to my US Senator etc. This raised red flags with the AIT folks and they admitted they thought that my fiancee owed money. We explained that nothing like that was the reason. The CO passed the file and passport to another person who assured us we would get the passport by courier within a week. However no one ever said if we were approved or denied.

My question to the board-if you are denied do they tell you right there and then? Would they have taken the passport if they had no intention of giving us the K-1?

While it may or not be approved, they won't keep the passport if the visa has been refused...

Right but didn't they give you any kind of paper indicating the result?

They did. But in all honesty we didnt have time to read it. They made us walk to the next window and turn all of the paperwork in (including the paper the CO gave us)

So, what did you do at the next window? Did you perhaps pay a fee to have the passport and visa mailed to you? If so, you were approved.

After turning in the paperwork at window 2, we were sent downstairs to the courier's office and had to give them the address of where the passport would be delivered to. They said fees for delivery would be due on receipt of the passport.
