Show me where the constitution prohibits the Patriot Act. Oh wait, the SC said it was constitutinal. And wait, the dem congress kept renewing it! How can that be?

The Fourth Amendment -- reasonable expectation of privacy, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures.

That means the government should stay the #### away from my bank account.

The government will and does respect the citizen’s rights. However, the security of this nation from terrorist supersedes the basic rights of the citizens to the point where it does not cause a civil unrest. The problem is that we have become so liberal that we forget that liberty is not free. Democracy is not freedom. There are inherent rights that we relinquish when we decide to be apart of a society. However, the bill of rights ensures citizens that our basic rights and needs will not be violated unjustly.

The SC said that the Patriot Act does not violate that ammendment.

Well, I disagree.

(Just as I'm sure some people disagree with Roe vs Wade.)

Hence the beauty of legal writing... the Act circumvents the Constitution, not violate it...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

BS. Our nation isn't buildings. They can destroy buildings, but you give them our liberties and you've given them exactly what they wanted - to terrorize us into giving up our freedom...f##k that.

As I recall, there were people in those buildings, people whose most basic right, the right to stay alive, was violated. It is job #1 for the government to protect the citizens against such acts.

If you're really that concerned about your safety, then I'd suggest you stop driving a car. Don't fly in plane. Move away from the west coast and find some remote place in America where you won't be shot in a drive-by in front your house or die in an earthquake, a fire, or from breathing too much pollution. We can go on and on. If your safety is that important, then what's stopping you from taking those steps?

What we don't know won't hurt us...

piece from the LAT: “The number of Americans being secretly wiretapped or having their financial and other records reviewed by the government has continued to increase as officials aggressively use powers approved after the Sept. 11 attacks. But the number of terrorism prosecutions ending up in court — one measure of the effectiveness of such sleuthing — has continued to decline, in some cases precipitously. The trends, visible in new government data and a private analysis of Justice Department records, are worrisome to civil liberties groups and some legal scholars. They say it is further evidence that the government has compromised the privacy rights of ordinary citizens without much to show for it.”

You may volunteer to be a victim of a terrorist attack if you wish, I'd prefer not to be murdered nor have my loved ones be victims.

I am. A terrorist attack might kill 10 people, or 100 or even 1000. The Patriot Act kills civil liberties for 300 million people.
