I just got off the phone with NVC operator and we got our case number, it is BMB2008****, so that means we are getting Bombay consulate, but I do remember specifically typing Chennai consulate while filling i-130, wondering if consulates can be changed or not? Operator did talk with her supervisor and said how we should call after 10 to 15 days and they will review if there was any mistake or not.

It won’t be of much problem but still Chennai is a bit closer for me than Bombay.

Silent, it may not be a problem. The requirement is the applicant must appear at the consulate of the country where the marriage took place. However, if you can sort it out to Chennai, that'll be great since your consulate is that one.

Well I am from Port Blair, Andaman Islands, so naturally Chennai is closer to me. But I do realise, how it is for people from these islands; non-immigration visas are taken care by Calcutta consulate but since Calcutta doesn't processes IV visas, except Adoption cases, so they all transfers to Mumbai(according to VFS).

How should I go about changing consulate? Should I take the steps after paying AOS and IV bills and when both of them have been approved or what the procedure is? Or should I just leave it as it is, don't want anymore hassle really :P

If VFS says so, you shouldn't change the consulate. That might trigger additional "Administrative Processing" - 221(g).

I had similar issue back in 1996. But it was for non-immigrant visa (H1B). I went to Mumbai Consulate to stamp the visa and got 221(g) to go to Chennai U.S consulate

Thanks lotto,

Don't want any additional hassles, already I am going through my panic attacks with the NVC process.

Just a quick question, I think I do know the answer but still going to recheck. A joint sponsor also fills up i-864 right? and not i-864a or something??

If joint sponsor is in the same household (same address) - I-864A. Otherwise use a second I-864.

Great Chintan, you are in a fastest bureaucratic center now

Good luck  Best time to get them is 7:30AM EST.

yup, its i-864 for us.

We may or may not need a joint sponsor, but I want to be prepared.

Silent, Please refer I-864P, if you needed joint sponsor or not.

Also, whenever the petitioner (if U.S citizen) has change of address, file I-865

Beneficiary and the petitioner (if petitioner is Green Card holder) must both file AR-11 for any change of address.

God bless you :star:

Calling at 7:30am is not an option for me as I am on west coast, so that I would have to wake up at 4:30. So I am just going to keep trying to call them all day today and see If I go through and I have also sent an email to get the IIN number.

Also I am in no hurry to submit the AOS documents and as now only 2 things are holding me back the signed copy of DS-230 which was mailed to my wife this week and PCC, which can take upto 2 weeks to be issued in Surat, Gujarat so The earliest I can submit the DS-230 is first week of July.

I have more question for lotofpatience.. How long did take u get the pcc in India.

thanks a lot

Chintan, it depends on the location or the state in India.

For my wife, PCC from Passport Office took 1 day and from the Police Station took 2 or 3 days.
