Shots for K-1 Visa

My Fiancee is in brazil and has her visa appointment in June. She called the doctor and they said that she needs to obtain some shots first. She was able to get two of the shots for free, but the doctor told her that she needed to get another shot that costs 400 rais! Does anyone know for sure what the vaccination requirements are for the K-1 Visa? My Fiance is 25 years Old.

Vaccinations are NOT required for a K-1 but are strongly reccomended. They are required for AOS. Google "adjustment of status vaccinations".

Hi Joe D,

I've had my shots in Rio, Brazil for free. As she is younger than me, maybe she is requested some other different shots.

I asked the doctor if I should get the Hepatitis B shot and he said there was no need for that now. But I know this particular vaccine is about R$ 100 on 3 doses, as the public health does not cover for old chicks like me. It will be helpful to know what kind of vaccine he is talking about.

Is he going to minister it at his office?

Hello there. Thanks for your help with this. The vaccine that the doctors told her to get was one for HPV. Should this be required before her interview, or just when her status is changed in the US?

Joe D, it seems like, if the doctor required her to take it, then I can only suppose that it will be a good idea for her to take the vaccine beforehand. I can only guess that he would then point out in the form that she has taken the first dose and she can complete the rest (3 doses in total) once she is adjusting her status.

I was reading about it and the price range is correct, apparently the first dose for HPV vaccine costs R$ 362,00 in BR.

I would do it, just to be safe.

Ahh, that's why my husband didn't have a R$400 bill .

All of my husband's vaccines were free except for varicella because he has never had chicken pox (that was R$180).

I'd say that if the vaccine does NOT need to be taken to come into the U.S. and it can be cheaper here (assume she may not have insurance here) then it can probably wait. The best thing to do is listen to the doctor. That's what we did - called the doctor before the medical exam and asked what a 23-yr-old man would need as far as vaccines.
