Dear All,

We are residents in Syria and my wife is Canadian. We are living in a third country in the Middle East and have applied for an immigrant visa through the DCF process in this country. We have passed all the steps (interview, forms, payment, etc), and her visa is tenatively approved once we turn in the 5 police reports for the countries that my wife has lived in (we are still waiting for 3 countries). The wait can be up to 3 or 4 months for the police reports. We want to go visit my father in the USA this summer. Can we do this while the DCF process is still pending - then come back to the Middle East to get the visa after we have the police reports (or better yet can we Fed-ex the police reports back with her passport from Canada ). Will the travel affect the DCF process in a negative way?

Any help from someone who has done this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kirk Jones

You could, but your wife's entry is subject to the POE officer's discretion, IE, you could be turned away. It doesn't happen that often, but always a risk.

Yep, I second this. Also, if the worst happens and she does get turned away, it won't affect the visa process as long as the reason for her refusal is that they didn't believe she was going to leave when required. Bring proof of leaving - ie, return plane ticket/e-ticket print out, proof of your residence like a lease or mortgage, and a letter from her employer if she's working stating the date they expect her to return.
