YES! YES! YES! Please share info about the development program. I acutally will be moving to Morocco this summer (late June or early July) I have quit my job and am in the process of selling my home as we speak. I am a certified English and reading teacher for high school aged children and have been in constant contact with the American International schools in both Casa and Rabat, but have not been able to secure a position. I have also contacted several NGO's and USAID programs that have offices/programs there, but thus far am still coming up short. I do know that the pay for any imployment that I am able to obtain will be minimal by comparison, but unfortunately, however, I have no choice. I WILL be moving job or not. As for my son, he will not attend school at all immediately upon our relocation but if I am unable to find work, I will home school him until he can adequately learn the language enough to attend the public school. Of course, there is NO way that we will be able to afford the private schools unless I am employed there.

If anyone has any inside information that could be of assistance, PLEASE pass it on. I am at the point of desperation now. If nothing else, I will attempt to sell Moroccan itesms on ebay for a while. :P

Wow, Joan, that's great! I'm excited for you, that must have been a hard decision to come to. I hope you can find a job there.

I briefly thought about moving to Morocco, but $200,000 in student loans makes that basically impossible :P

Is this guy more important than your son's education? Is he working, at least? How will you survive if he isn't working? Do you think about the effect the move will have on your son? (No school or friends)

Yes, in fact, I have considered all of the things you state. This is NOT a dicision to be made lightly. But since your opinion is neither required nor desired, you should probably keep it to yourself.

I think it's great that you're moving back and I believe it will be an amazing opportunity for your son to live and study in another country. I am sure you have thouroughly thought this through and would not have made the decision lightly. I'm so excited for you! I hope you have a wonderful experience and who knows in a year or two we might be meeting up somewhere over there ;)

I just wanted to say that when I was 12 my Dad got a job in France so me, my bother, mom, dad, and oreo of course all packed up and went over there for 2 years. I know your child is much younger but for me it was the very best thing that ever happened to me. (Meeting Hicham of course was the best too, but I couldn't have talked to him if I didn't speak French, and I wouldn't be fluent in French if I didn't live in France!) Anyways, as far as your son goes, I would say as long as you put him in a private or international school that will be good for him. He will probably pick up both French and Arabic very quickly, and he will have a different perspective on the world, one that many are not lucky enough to obtain from living in another country for some time. It really changes you in the very best way to live abroad I think, and you will all learn so much. Also, you wont be far from Europe so just think of al the travel opportunities! I am very thankful for having lived abroad for2 years and I constantly thank my parents for the experience. I was actually very happy to go over there, and even though some days were pretty tough at school and missing my friends it was all worth it in the end. And that's my story tonight.

Sarah

 I hope this is not reincarnation.

HAHAHA I just realized what you are talking about. Good times.

Hi Ladies - Well Youssef and I have been talking lately about somethings and I thought I'd throw some of it out there and see what you all think. He has been here for almost four months now and we're in the process of filing our AOS papers. I have found a few good job opportunities in Morocco just browsing corporations (Hewlett Packard etc.) and have a job waiting at any time if I want to teach English (about 9000dh a month). We are thinking of moving back to Morocco once he has his green card. His mom is not doing so well (health-wise) and I really do love living there. We are considering taking out a loan or getting some type of development loan (which exist when you want to start a business in a developing country) to start some kind of business for him. Eventually I want to open a shelter for women and children in Marrakech, with job training and basic educational opportuinties but that's a little way off. We have a 2 year old and I want him to go to a French/Arabic/English private school in Marrakech. Youssef has 5 sisters in Morocco, all who love him and said that if we moved back and we were working it would be no problem for them to watch him. Part of me is really wanting to do this, but part of me feels like we're giving up by moving back. I have always wanted to live overseas and work in development projects and it seems like the perfect opportunity. It's still 1-2 years off but what do you think??

Hi, just a little word but no advise to this because I have thoughts as the same as you too. Just wanted to let you know there is a group called"Road2Morocco". It's a group who are either currently living in Morocco or just as you "thinking on this". It maybe a good idea to join to get a better perspective on this matter. You can inquire to all questions you have regarding the move or not move to Morocco and the pro/cons. There are ladies there who have moved and currently living at Morocco some in the process, some will give you a better idea and some who have absolutely enjoyed their life there. So think about it!

Best of Luck!!

Khadija
