GRACKLE, but not sure of the spelling. Young birds are either weaker than the siblings who pushed them out or nearing the age to learn to fly. If they were pushed out it will happen again if you put them back.

It looks like a starling. Do nothing, the parents will teach them to fly if they are ready. If you have touched them and are caring for them, they may eat mealworms. If not, you will have to buy special formula and tube feed them, which I would not recommend since you have no experience.

very minute pieces ... if they will eat that. You can take frozen peas, let them un thaw at room temperature, take the skins off and half them, and put in a small dish. Take and peel grapes, skins off and finely chop. Do the same with apple slivers, about the size of a half a toothpick. This is going to be hard work, as wild birds eat about 6 times a day. Offer distilled water. Go to your vet and ask to be shown how to tube feed and remember that too many mealworms a day can cause liver damage.

Call around to find a wild bird rescue in your area.

Call a vet in your area - they might know of somebody who will take the birds and care for them. They are probably still young enough that they will need tube feeding, but for the inexperienced, it is very dangerous for the birds. Also, I have heard baby food too - but not sure what kind?? I hope a vet can help you in the right direction.

This is a strange post for me to read today. My husband in Morocco had this same thing happen 2 days ago...2 baby birds kicked out of the nest. He has taken them home - one died this morning :crying: - the other seems to be doing ok. Since in morocco, with not much vet help, he is feeding the bird wet bread and little pieces of cooked spaghetti. Hope that will work for them...not much choice there!

Good luck - and GOD BLESS YOU for taking care of those helpless little birds.:thumbs:

Cooked vermicelli or Rice A Roni without the flavour packet added works good, too.

If they are pre flying they will need tube feeding you should make it like babyfood a loose paste. Look in your phone book for a feed store they sometimes carry special food for such things. Be sure to keep them warm . Being exposed to a low wattage light usually works. If you try to feed them be few careful not to overfill their crop if it ruptures they die. Usually it is hard to raise baby birds like that.

it's a grackle, correct. that pic you posted - that's the male, larger than the female and a steel blue/black color. the female is slightly smaller and more of a medium gray in color.

They keep birdy hours. Awake at sunrise and to bed when it is dusk. No need to wake them during the night. You may startle them so it is best to keep the carrier covered and away from any disturbance.

good luck with the grackles - they like meat based protein - eat insects and suet at the feeders - so catfood is probably a good option to try, plus make sure they have fresh water too.

The purpose of making the apple slivers and the vermicelli is to try and ' trick ' them into thinking it's mealworms. They should have a variety of fruit and veggies. Also, you may want to break off teenie tiny pieces of Romaine lettuce and put that in their little dishes as well.
