We'll see Tuesday, I suppose, how much pull Mingo county has in WV.

Reinhard, you're starting to really pi$$ me off.

Don't let it get to you RJ. Remember, we've been dealing with reverse discrimination our whole lives.

West Virginian? You're damn right I am and I'm proud of it. Where is my family originally from? Why Deutschland (and Ireland) as a matter of fact. My Great, Great, Great, Great Grand Pappy Johann was here fighting those damn French/Indians/British from 1749 until he died nearly broke in 1781(he loaned the U.S. Government money to finance the Revolution, which they never paid back). I don't know how that's relevant but I felt a need to include it!

I just get annoyed when someone tries to speak with authority about something they clearly know very little about. But that happens on VJ all the time, especially with the political threads.

I know. I find myself driving down the road, thinking about a post and growing irritated. Then I think "Get a life Mark"!

I hear ya.

You know, when I was in Northern Ireland and London, whenever I told someone where I was from in the US, they would start singing to me. EVERYONE. And you know what they sang? Take Me Home, Country Roads.

While I find the song annoying, at the end of the day I guess it's not so bad. At least it references an affable people, unlike what some people would like to think of us.

It was still a hit in Germany in 86/88 too!

Why, something factually wrong?

No.

Someone's head is just clearly someplace where the sun doesn't shine.

Apparently. Good thing it ain't mine. ;)

Mingo County FTW!

EXIT POLLS: The Race Factor in West Virginia

One-Third of Whites Citing Race in Vote Would Support Obama Over McCain

ANALYSIS By GARY LANGER

May 13, 2008 —

A confluence of groups customarily inclined toward Hillary Clinton was voting in the West Virginia primary, with less-educated, lower-income Southern whites predominating.

Nonetheless there was room for criticism of Clinton -- and bringing "needed change," Barack Obama's trademark, was again the most-desired candidate trait.

The Race Factor

Racially motivated voting appeared to be running higher than usual: Two in 10 whites said the race of the candidate was a factor in their vote, second only to Mississippi. And only a third of those voters said they'd support Obama as the nominee against John McCain, fewer than in other primaries where the question has been asked.

At the same time, 48 percent in preliminary exit poll results picked "change" as the top candidate attribute, not far from its level across all primaries to date, and Obama's trademark.

And six in 10 voters said Clinton had attacked her opponent unfairly; fewer, just under half, said Obama had attacked unfairly.

Obama Takes Hit in West Virginia

Nonetheless there also were criticisms of Obama in the West Virginia electorate.

About half of voters said that at least to some extent he shares the views of his controversial former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright; fewer though, two in 10, thought he shares "a lot" of views with Wright.

About half also doubted Obama's honesty and trustworthiness, turning the tables on an attribute on which Clinton more often has come up short.

Ninety-five percent of voters in preliminary exit poll results were whites, just under a third were college graduates -- among the fewest in any primary this year -- and 55 percent had household incomes under $50,000, among the most in primaries to date.
