Hello everyone,

my wife immagrated from Thailand 1 year ago now. I am ready to submit paperwor to bring her 3 year old son. my question is Do we need his true father to sign for him to get the visa? In my wifes final divorce decree in thailand, it states that the father abondoned his responsibility towards the child and the court awarded her 100% custody. I hope that is good enough, because I know if it is up to him, he will not sign just to give her a hard time. Any info will be appreciated.

also anyone know any reasonable translation agencies in San Francisco area? (Thai to ENGLISH). thank you.

My wife & brought her daughter in similar situation from Thailand.

Does the boy have passport? That is where she was asked about the natural father because of the birth cert. They asked if he ever supported the little girl. He did not. Our daughter was given the passport & later the K 4 visa.

During the inteview for the visa this never came up. This could be because I was there & we were all traveling together.

When Rin went to get passports for her children (for K4 visas) they told her that her ex-husband had to come sign for passport for the children (signature of both parents required). If the ex-husband will not sign or cannot be located, then the mother must go to the local amphur with two witnesses that will attest that she takes care of the child(ren) and the father does not provide any support. A form is filled out and registered at the amphur. Rin then returned to the passport office with that affidavit and received the children's passports.

Rin said the passport office gave her printed instructions on what she needed to obtain the children's passports. I am sure they have a website with the requirements, but it would be in Thai.

Goodluck,

John

Here is the website for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Thailand. It has info on obtaining a passport, but it is in Thai so I don't know if it addresses the issue of passports for children without consent of both parents.

Anyone have experience such as our predicament? We have already been to our interview for cr2 visa for my stepdaughter, age 9. But they wanted more docs. I am a u.s. Citizen petitioner for her. The U.S. Embassy official told us to have the paternal father get a letter of consent to emigrate stamped at "any" district office. He took the letter to district offices in Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Ayyyuthaya, Surin, Bangrak, and even his birthplace of Sisaket. Every office told him that even though the U.S. Official asked for a stamped consent letter, none of them said they could or would do so and that the U.S. Embassy erroneously asks for that consent to be stamped. My Thai wife has sole custody on her divorce docs, but it is not a Thai court ordered sole custody. Stepdaughter's paternal father has never supported or lived with, visited child, BUT he is working with us to try to get a stamped letter of consent for her to emigrate to U.S. We are at our wits end because the U.S. Embassy in BKK still insists that any district office will do it. As a follow up we called all these district offices from California and the ALL said it can't be done because the father has no authority to give consent. Someone please help!
