Hello everyone,

Maybe someone can answer this question. Is there someplace in the United States that my wife can renew her Thai Passport as its getting close to expiration? Just for the future time for personal travel. More specifically Texas as that is where we are now.

She is not a U.S. Citizen yet so she can not get a U.S. Passport as far as I know.

But on the other side of that coin, I am in the U.S. Army so we will be applying for a passport for official travel when we PCS to Germany.

Not sure what kind of passport the Army will issue, but I am pretty sure that is just used for official travel and not personal travel.

Any help would be great.

Thanks all,

Adam

Hello, Adam,

May be you can contact the Thai Consular in the US?

For Malaysians, we can renew our passport through the consular office in the US, in person or by mail.

Hello again everyone,

Thanks Leah.

Just talked to the Consualr branch in Washington D.C. They said that I could process the paper work through them, but to wait until the end of May as there will be services availiable in Texas at that time. Not sure if that is accurate but I am verifying this and will follow up for those of you in Texas.

Hi Adam,

Not sure if your wife has her greencard yet, but if she does, why not go for her citizenship?

There's all sorts of loopholes for military spouses for early citizenship processing especially if you're being stationed in Germany.

Speak to your Commander on this one, as I think this is something that he/she can get involved in.

Most of the time early citizenship is for spouses who are going to be posted with you out of the US ..... but, I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that if your Commander gets involved, it can be before .... don't quote me on that, but with impending non-US posting, you're onto a winner.

She can then have a US passport.

Hi Adam,

http://www.thaiembdc.org/index.htm

You probably already found those links for Texas. I know my son went through the Royal Thai Consulate in Denver to get his student visa for Thailand, but I don't know about passports for Thai citizens. He did it all by mail and the service was very fast (like lightning compared to the USCIS).

Enjoy your tour in Germany. We loved living there for three years, courtesy of the US Army.
