And I have never seen any other options such as LPG explored here. Or bio-diesel etc..

I was just reading an article which predicts fuel will cost over $6 a gallon within the next five years. Which will truly make driving unfordable to a lot of people.

As you know, most other industrialized nations pay much more for gasoline than their US counterparts. The average US consumer will eventually adjust, as expected. It was bound to happen.

But the US has neither the wage growth, dollar value or public transportation to handle it. If the wages were going up relative to fuel prices I would say yep no problem. This is clearly not the case here; Far from it actually. So there will be consequences for $6 gas.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

We have a winner! Somewhere Chicago is above the $4 mark before the end of the summer!

Just today I paid over $4.00 ... $4.03.9 and it hurt. I'm in the burbs of Chicago.

Meanwhile OPEC members and US oil companies are using money for smoking meat on the grill..

Lets not confuse the members of OPEC for the west now. The clear solution is that we develop technology to get vehicles off oil and basically tell OPEC where to shove their oil. But while that happens we need to drill any oil field available to America.

OPEC is not relenting on barrel prices or increasing production. Meanwhile, big oil companies are posting record profits.

F'em all.....

Edit to add: Even with the untapped oil sources in the US, there is too much opposition to drill for it. Either way, it would not be enought to sever the OPEC ties.

Chavez, Putin and Ahmadinajab are making billions from this oil boom. The only difference is that they are not some american company to open up their books for us to see. The oil companies make money because people continue to use it. After all the United States has not built a new refinery or drilled offshore for decades now..

Considering your degree in economics, I'm surprised that you are unaware that the US purchases the majority of its crude oil from non-OPEC imports, with Canada being the lead supplier. The consumer price paid has more to do with taxation than cost per barrel, which is why you see such wide regional variations.

The president's trip in the Middle East seems to suggest otherwise. Fuel is taxed quite low in the US.

PS I thought I clarified that in another thread. Studied economics as part of MA in Business Management.

I just paid 3.89 for regular about an hour ago. Sigh.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I understand that this is mostly for US gas prices, however here goes for Canada, assuming Canadian dollar is on par with US greenback:

I paid $1.239/litre CAD on Friday.

1 US gallon = 3.79 lites

$1.239 x 3.79 = $4.70/gallon with tax factored in.

However, I understand that our fuel is taxed higher in Canada than in the US, so take out Provincial Tax (Alberta) and Federal Tax = $0.19/litre

$1.049 x 3.79 = $3.98/gallon with tax factored out.

*my math skills are not good enough to figure out how the GST is taken out at 5%.

i remember when i could fill up my tercel for $10.00... :(

I bought my Tacoma new in 2000. At the time, gas was pretty cheap in Indiana compared to the rest of the country...like 20-30 cents cheaper. I was paying around $1.10/gallon. I could fill up my truck for $20 or less. Now it costs me $55-$60. That's triple in only 8 years - mostly in the last couple. That's unacceptable. $4.50 will be my breaking point. If it hits that, I'll quit my job in Indy and take some ####### job here in Greencastle where I can ride my bike to work.

For your amusement....

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
