I am so sorry to hear how badly you were treated by the Consulate staff. I found from my own experience the Department of State - Consulate Officers to be the most inept and arrogant out of the whole process. I mean, yes, you fill out forms and wait long times when going through USCIS and the NVC. But at least those departments follow established protocols and guidelines. However, once you get to the Consulate level, the officer interviewing can follow their own rules.

In my own circumstance, the Consulate staff in Abu Dhabi were real jerks.

1) They denied our Joint sponsors affidavit of support on the premise that Social Security retirement income is A MEANS TESTED BENEFIT. However, OIG state department manual (which is what the consulate is to go by) specifies SS retirement income IS NOT MEANS TESTED.

2) Then months after the interview, the Consulate wanted a Cirriculum Vitae (similiar to a resume). Since when is a career resume required to get a visa? The Consulate officer has all that information in front of them on the G-325A and DS-230 forms. (We had to retype all that info into a resume style letter just to please a whim)

3) Lastly, original civil documents are to be handed back after the interview. However, the Consulate Officer stuck our marriage certificate in the big envelope which is to be given to the Customs Officer at Port of Entry. When we contacted the Abu Dhabi US Consulate they casually said, "Oh, yeah, it was a mistake. Just ask for it from the immigration officer at the airport."

The Department of State Consular Section staff are unprofessional, inept bureaucrats.

We made the News Paper in my Home Town !!! Here is the Link ( http://www.examiner.net/news/x1820415609/Trapped-in-paradise ) Thanks Visa Journey !!! We continue to Fight For What Is Right !!!! Chuck and Teresa

Hi Chuck and Teresa,

I cant imagine what you both are going through. I was stressing off extra days needed in case something happened when we were in Juarez. The whole process put a dent in my pocket thats for sure. I'll send out a prayer for both of you. Thats so wrong how they handle things when the obvious is right in their face. It's almost like their heartless and just consider every petition as just a # not knowing the affect it has on the people dealing with the situation. Que dios este con ustedes.....

SO what are you guys doing next? The article said the court of appeals may take years? Why not get married and file an I-130? I know it isn't fare but man I would not wait years and still have a potential denial and have to do the I-130 anyway.
