Birth Certificate

My SO doesn't have a birth certificate because his birth was never registered. He has a "Declaration of Age" document that's sort of like an affidavit that he got at the courthouse.

Is this going to be a problem? I know in other countries you can go and get some sort of certificate. Can this be done in Nigeria and is it necessary?

i dont know may be us embassy will take that from him but some embassy does , tell ur SO to go to IKEJA HIGH COURT he will get a birth certifiacte, he just need to give them his infomations they will get him one. about the police certificate he only need one it covers the whole country and he will get that one at ALAGBON tell him to ask for police certificate not police report and it valid for 3 month.

Birth certificate are obtainable in any High Court or Local Government offices at the department of birth and death registry. But the High Court or Local Government office must be within the locality he was born. For instance, if your SO was born in Lagos Mainland locality in Lagos State, then he has to present a birth certificate from that Local Government office. Some people do request for both the birth certificate and certified birth certificate but the information on both documents must be the same. The certified birth certificate is more detailed. It shows both his parents names and when he was born.

When I went for the interview, I had both certificates but the Lady that attended to me only accepted the birth certificate. I will advice he get the birth certificate because he will still need it when he arrive the US. Except for an extrem evidence of difficulties that didn't allow his parents to register his birth when he was born.
