I'd like to play GTAIV, but I have neither an Xbox 360 nor a PS3. I was going to purchase a PS3, but then I found out Sony had removed backwards compatibility from the console. That made me rethink my decision, since I have a lot of PS1 and PS2 games I'd still like to have access to in the future. If the price of the PS3 drops substantially, I might go ahead and get it anyway (it's a good deal simply for the Blu-Ray player, especially now that HD-DVD is dead), but until that happens, I'll probably stick with the current consoles I have and my PC.

Speaking of PC gaming... some of you might want to be careful when purchasing some of the newly released games. Many of them are requiring the use of Pixel Shader 3.0, which is only available in current, high-end video cards. So if you have a lower-end card or you're computer is a few years old, you may only have some version of Pixel Shader 2.0 (or less). There a number of games that'll work with both the older and newer pixel shaders, but many developers have decided to forgo any use of the older technology and force users to upgrade or leave the box on the shelf. Make sure to check the system requirements on the box and on a gaming review site (such as GameSpot) before buying a new game.

As a side-note, I've played GTA:VC in front of my wife before and she couldn't understand my bloodthirsty desire to run over pedestrians, kill hookers (to get my money back) and cause mass destruction all over the place. She thought using the hookers to gain back health and then killing them to grab back my cash was particularly distasteful. :innocent:

You can still get a PS3 with backwards compatibility - but you have to buy the 80gb version, which is $100 more than the basic 40gb console.

and rockband!! rockband is a must with every 360

But only if you regularly have friends over, I think. Other than that, yes! It's great fun. The one time I played it, there was a guy doing the vocals who kept failing the song. Eventually he decided to try it in a falsetto voice - and guess what, he aced it! It was highly amusing and amazingly well done.

My husband and I have two xboxes and two tv's next to each other, but the only game we have 2 of is GOW. But we have GTA IV, and of course rock band. that game owns. he is hogging gta at the moment though. I think the only new game after this that I will want is going to be GOW 2 in november. so far away

We don't play too many videogames these days, but this is a lot of fun.

The wife doesn't seem interested in doing the missions as much as rampaging around the city, stealing cars, starting fights and running over pedestrians.

She laughs while she's doing it too. Perhaps I should be concerned...

sweet. I just picked up an xbox 360. I might have to get it.

My loins quiver in anticipation for the day GTA IV makes it to the PC! I prefer the PC as a games machine, although it hits the pockets quite heavily.. but it's worth it!! I don't think it'll be making its way to the PS2? I haven't whacked some hookers or mowin down a bunch of innocent pedestrians in quite a while. My wife on the other hand doesn't understand my need to play the GTA's!

We have a really good HDTV (43" 1080i - bought in Dec 2006), but still no Bluray

or HD-DVD player to go with it -- we've been basically waiting for the war to end.

Toshiba quit the format war months ago...HD-DVD is dead in the water.

Yep, I know. I might still get the Combo HD-DVD/Bluray player - they are now down to $500 -

only because HD-DVD discs will be a dime a dozen real soon.

yeap... im one of the 'lucky' ones who got an hd-dvd player (got the accessory for the 360, so it wasn't as expensive).. and even though hd is dead.. the dvds are already under 10 bucks on half.com so is not a bad idea to rebuild my collection on hd lol

I'm still in the first area of the city - I keep getting distracted and end up starting fights with passers-by.

I like how when you get a cab ride - you can tell the driver you're in a hurry and he'll drive like a maniac (which is hilarious to see from the back seat), but if the driver runs someone over or causes an accident its you that the cops come after.

I pulled a knife in the strip club - precipitating a stampede of screaming strippers into the street.

BTW - have you pushed anyone down stairs yet?
