Well, I'm not going to say they are mindless nitwits, but if the Catholic church tells them not to use contraception, a lot of devout Catholics aren't going to, just because it's the church telling them not to.

Well then, aren't they mindless nitwits? :)

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I'm NOT going to say that. They are following what they believe. They believe the Catholic church is right.

They believe the Catholic church is right.

"Organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers. It tells people to go out and stick their noses in other people's business." -- Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura in 1999.

"It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."

Doesn't the Philippines have a big problem with fatherless children too?

yes, but i rather them to have nothing than having bad father.

What I don't get is that they won't use a condom because the Church condemns it, but they'll have sex out of wedlock, which I have to believe the Church also condemns. Is the use of a condom a worse sin than premarital sex?

The "no condom" thing was a great idea - what better way to enlist new recruits?

Simple minded fools. (putting on my best impersonation of a regular VJ'er who shall not be named)

The Phillipines, like other Third World countries doesn't have any real retirement system, so your children are your economic future. Many families there are surviving purely on the incomes of their children, many who have gone overseas for work - Jinky has three sisters, all who studied nursing to work abroad. It was through their overseas incomes that the family has been able to thrive. The dire poverty in the Philippines has little to do with people having too many babies, but a huge disparity between the haves and the have nots. I'm surprise that there isn't more social unrust, revolts in a country where the great majority of the people are dirt poor while a small percentage are wealthy.
