This really pisses me off...sigh....?

The original American woman had a papoose in a bag that she took to work (gathering wild rice) and the idea of dossing around the house pretending to clean up was an unwelcome cultural import..

I deplore women being discouraged to work in traditional 'men's' occupations such as deep coal mining on shifts and I think the prescence of women in the front line at war is long overdue.

While they are doing this, there is nothing wrong with their husbands working as receptionists and doing their nails...

why women should want this work is a mystery to me as I have always tried to avoid dangerous hard work but giving men a break from this kind of work is overdue.

I hope this doesn't sound bad, but I don't want my husband being a nail guy. I'm sure he doesnt want me working in a mine. lol .

Why the people who ask this question don't ask who is paying for housing and food stamps in this country ?

There are so many people in this country who are on welfare all their life and they get the money.. why shouldn't new mothers be paid for a few months ?

I hear ya. It often seems like it is not even being used for it's intended purpose. Those who really need it are getting duped and others abuse it. I think that there is a 3 year maximum on some of the services now though? I could be wrong. I used to work for a Drug treatment center and learned there that the 3 year thing did not apply to those that were in a residential treatment program, (loophole I guess).

Also I wanted to add that new fathers should get the same benefits as new mothers in the case that the dad decides to stay home, or he is a single parent. They always seem to get overlooked for maternity benefits.

Seriously though, I think it's a good idea. In the end I think it makes the country a better place, with a higher (average) standard of living, and probably more prosperous, despite any tax increases. And yeah, we could probably trim defense a bit to boot.
